School safety reminder

Please remember that as per school policy everyone, other than students and staff members, entering the building during school hours must first visit the office and sign in to obtain an ID badge. This is the case even if you are "only walking your child to class". This is the one measure we are all able to take to insure our schools' safety, and our office staff is working diligently to enforce it. Your cooperation is appreciated!

A new principal has been appointed!

The Wake County Public School System has announced the appointment of Gia Hoke as the new principal of Penny Road Elementary. Ms. Hoke is currently the assistant principal at Swift Creek Elementary. As soon as we have information about when Ms. Hoke will officially become a PRE Panda, we will let you know!

Penny Road, the PTA, and our kids need you!

The 2018 Penny Road PTA Nominating Committee has been formed in order to fill the Executive Board positions for the 2018-19 school year. We have 5 members of the current board who, after a combined 15+ years of service, are stepping down. This is a wonderful time to get involved with the Penny Road PTA! We have many different positions available to suit different interest levels, talents, and time commitments. If you want to be involved, there is a spot for you! We encourage anyone who might be interested to reach out to our Nominating Committee: Barb Wright (, Amber Olah ( or Beth Potts (

Books and Beyond update for our Kindergarten and 1st Grade families

We are entering the last part of the Books and Beyond reading program. The collection of sheets to count towards individual goals will end on April 30. Please encourage your kiddos who are close to reaching their individual goals to keep up the great work, fill out the sheets and turn them in.

Just a recap of following class winners for the past two months:

January: K: Ms. Beddingfield’s class with 915 books and 1st: Mrs. Deaton’s class with 945 books! Both classes won a game for their classroom.

February: This month all classes win a special snack. Books and Beyond will be working with the teachers to arrange delivery of their treat soon.

In addition, to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss, all Kindergarten and 1st grade classes had a special visit from the Cat in the Hat as part of the Pump Up the Volume Contest. The Kindergarten and 1st grade classes combined to read 4,260 books over the course of two weeks! Congratulations readers! Keep up the great work.

One more update sheet will come home the middle of April with the counts we currently have.

Thank you for continuing to help foster a love of reading by participating in this great program!

A big thank you from the Book Fair team!

Even though Mother Nature tried to put a damper on book fair last week, we had another successful fair! We wanted to send a quick thank you to all of our volunteers for jumping in when weather changed our schedule last minute. Also, we wanted to thank all of our parents for supporting the fair. Because of all your purchases we were able to use some of our profits to purchase $1500 worth of books for our Media Center.

We also wanted to let everyone know that we are currently looking for a few eager parents to join the book fair team next year. If you are interested, please email Lindsay Tremelling,

Lindsay Tremelling, Sherri Stecher and Amber Olah
