This Week @ PS 88Q

November 7, 2021

A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy

I hope everyone is enjoying their extra hour this weekend! It seems that the best gift we could ever receive is time. There doesn't seem to be enough time these days to do all we would like to do. The fall temperatures have arrived as well!

We are so excited for our upcoming elections. This week the excitement about our Student Council has been amazing. WOW!!! These students who are aspiring to be leaders are truly inspirational. Their optimism, their ideas, their motivation, their positivity, their spirit, and their belief that they can make a difference is amazing. I have been spending some time with the candidates, listening to them and most importantly watching them. When we assemble in the morning to hang the posters, I am reminded of what life looks like from their perspective. 4th and 5th grade got a glimpse of the candidates Friday, as the President and Publicist candidates gave their speeches. School wide will have that opportunity Monday (schedule below). All of this leading up to Election Day on Tuesday, November 9th. Student council will take on many tasks, the first being designing Spirit Week for PS 88Q. Our Council will include grade reps from each grade (1-5), a publicist, secretary, treasurer, vice president and president.

Here are some things to remember for this week.

I-Ready: Students have their passwords for I-Ready and are using it both at home and in school

Vaccination Pop Up: I am hosting a meeting Monday night for any families considering vaccination for their 5-11 year old. See information below. Pop Up site is Wednesday, November 10th from 7am-11am

PTA Meeting: Tuesday, November 9th @ 7:00pm, link below

Veterans Day: No School Thursday November 11

Have a wonderful week!

Emergency Broadband Benefit: Internet Service Discount.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an FCC program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Any families with children in schools offering free meals through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Eligibility Provision can sign up for this program, which means it’s available to all students enrolled in New York City’s public schools.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price. Read more details on the FCC Emergency Broadband Benefit website, and watch the FCC’s video in English, Spanish, or American Sign Language to learn more.
