Customs and Beliefs.

Maori (natives) cuisine is based on seafood, mutton birds (young petrels), wild pork or fowl, fat lamb, and kumara (sweet potato).
New Zealanders enjoy preparing meals at home. It is custom to bring a small gift when visiting another's home.

Christmas meals are adapted to better fit summer weather -- as the seasons are reveresed.

Meals consist of cold meat, salad, fresh berries, fruit salad, and pavlova (meringue-like cake topped with cream and fresh fruit).
