LHS Weekly Update #3

August 14, 2020

Lathrop Students and Families,

The countdown until the first day of school is on! School starts on Thursday, August 20 and we are so excited to connect with each of our students. Lathrop teachers and staff have been working hard to provide excellent learning opportunities this year whether it be remote or in person. This fall will look very different from what you may have experienced last spring when we were suddenly and unexpectedly thrown into a remote learning environment. Use of a common platform, grades, a combination of both "live" instruction and independent work, opportunities for small group and individualized help, will all be a part of your Lathrop school experience this year.

If you haven't done so already - sign up for the Lathrop Launch. Schedule a time to come to Lathrop next week to pick up a schedule, materials, and check out a Chromebook if you need one. Check out my video explaining the Lathrop Launch Plan. **Students in the full eLearning program can also come check out a Chromebook at this time.

To checkout a Chromebook a parent/guardian must sign an acceptable use agreement. We will have paper copies at the school for the Lathrop Launch or parents can follow directions emailed out earlier this week (from the district) on how to sign this form online.

There is a lot of information in this update and no doubt you will continue to have many questions. You are welcome to reach out via email or give us a call during our front office hours 7-3 Mon-Fri. email: carly.sween@k12northstar.org Phone: 456-7794

Student Schedules

Lathrop students will have 3 classes in their schedule each quarter. The last few weeks we have completely redone the master schedule, and, as you can imagine, it has been a huge undertaking. You can log into Powerschool to see your schedule; however, there are changes needed for some student schedules to fix errors and adjust class sizes. Student schedules may change between now and August 20. Next week we will provide you a link to a Google Form to request changes if needed. For now, we ask you to stay patient.

**To view the entire year's schedule you will have to download the Powerschool App. Viewing a schedule via the web will ONLY show quarter 1.

When does Jazz Band and Show Choir Meet?

Jazz band and show choir are "zero hour" classes. They will meet Mon/Tues/Thur/Fri 8:10-9:15am. Contact Mr. Hovest (tristan.hovest@k12northstar.org) or Connie Oba (connie.oba@k12northstar.org) with any questions.

What is the morning meeting in the schedule?

The morning meeting will be posted on our YouTube page each day. Students should log in to watch so they don't miss important information.

Is Lathrop serving lunch?

Yes! Tables will be set outside Hering Auditorium (near the Spirit Rock) each school day from 9am-1pm. Students can get meals at free, reduced, or full pay. These meals will need to be heated up at home. Menus, details, and more found on the Nutrition Services Website.

To apply for free and reduced lunch or put money into your student's account, visit schoolcafe.com

When can we come to school in person?

As of right now ALL students are starting remotely. The school board will be discussing bringing small groups of students back (some special education students for example). The school board will continue to monitor the situation as we progress through the semester. At this time there is no set date to return to the building.
