Principal Chat

Happy Friday!

The weeks are flying by! And, in typical Utah fashion the weather goes from record highs to record lows in just a day. One day the kids are rolling their pants up into shorts and the next day they are playing with sleds and snow shovels at recess.

Next week is Parent Teacher Conference. School is out at 1:30 on Wednesday (no BASE on Wednesday) and there is NO school on Thursday March 17 or Friday March 18. While you are at Parent Teacher Conference please stop by the book fair in the library. Scholastic provides Bridge with points for every purchase that we can use to buy more books for our school library.

Please keep up on your emails and social media if possible as these are the first methods of communication with parents.

Stay safe and healthy and enjoy the weekend!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Our Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) are scheduled for March 16 - 18. On Wednesday, March 16, school is dismissed at 1:30 pm. Because it is early dismissal there is NO BASE on Wednesday, March 16. There is also NO school on Thursday March 17 or Friday March 18. Teachers have sent a sign up out for Parent Teacher Conferences. If you did not receive their sign up please reach out to your child's teacher.

We host only ONE formal PTC each year. However, three times a year your child's teacher (grades 1-6) invite you to attend the student's Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) meeting. Also, each and every teacher is open to meeting with you as needed, simply send them an email requesting a meeting and the reason for the meeting.

Generous STEM Donation

We are the very grateful recipients of a generous grant for our STEM program. THANK YOU to US Charitable Gift Trust for the $5,000 donation. Mr.Johnson, our STEM teacher will help put this money to good use to provide our kids exciting and engaging STEM activities.

6th Grade Author Visit

Lance Conrad, an author of several books for kids, visited our 6th grade students this week. He provided students with great information regarding their own writing and also entertained kids with a reading from one of his books. Many students were inspired by his secrets to good writing including "SHOW me don't tell me".

Student Maturation

Maturation becomes a sticky subject - some parents want the school to provide all the information while other parents want to provide maturation information themselves. Some parents want the girls to also have maturation about boys and vice verse, while other parents want their child sheltered from the information regarding the other gender.

Davis School District provides a fabulous online maturation program for boys and girls that parents can view and and use to help their kids through the maturation information. Using this format, parents are in control of the information provided to their children. Parents can also determine the age in which the child receives the information.

Use the link below to access the maturation videos for boys and girls.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP)

Our FFVP has been a HUGE success. Students are trying all kinds of fruit and vegetables that they otherwise may not have ever had the opportunity, or desire, to eat. Not all kids are fans of things like sweet peppers or white asparagus, but many kids ask their parents to now buy these items for them at the store. This program came to us through a generous grant. We will apply again for the grant for next school year but are not guaranteed it will be awarded. Fingers crossed we can once again offer our kiddos a FREE fresh fruit or vegetable snack next year.
