FROM THE PRINCIPAL
ENROL YOUR CHILD NOW
Due to our excellent reputation in the wider community, we are currently experiencing high enrolments.
If you have a little one at home that has not yet commenced at PCPS, I urge you to submit an application immediately to the school.
Some of our families have missed out on a position as they forgot to submit their enrolment form.
Admin staff are not aware if you have younger ones at home so an enrolment form is essential.
Even if your child is only a few months old, please submit an application form now.
Mothers day
For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of Mary to honour Mary, Mother of God. In class the children will be praying the Hail Mary or the Rosary.
Thank you to Year Two children for their beautiful performance assembly reminding us how special our mothers are in our lives.
To all our PCPS mothers, I wish you a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday and hope you get spoilt by your family.
Our little ones pampering their mums
Our Kindy children had a special Mothers Pampering afternoon where they did their mums hair, put make up on them, massaged their hands with moisturiser and painted their nails. It was a delight to watch the children shower their mums with love! Kindy mums you looked ready for a night out!
Our dear little Pre Kindy children also shared a special morning with their mums making them bracelets and giving them hand massages!

Roof Repairs
We are currently undertaking some repairs to our tiled roofing within the school over the next five weeks. This work needs to be undertaken before the wet weather sets in.
When the roofers work on areas above the classrooms, we will be moving the children to different areas of the school to work for the day eg learning hub, art studio, extension room, science room etc as there may be a little noise on the roof. PK, K, PP classes will not be affected.
We will endeavour to let parents know where the class is working at least the day before however this will be dependent upon the roofers timeframe of work.
The Leadership Team thanks you in anticipation of your continued support regarding these repairs.
Have a lovely weekend and a wonderful Mother's Day to all our gorgeous PCPS mums!

Extension Program
In the Extension programme we are focussing on using problem solving learning processes that develop innovative solutions to real-world problems. One of the best ways to introduce children to this process is through hands-on experiments.
The Egg Drop experiment is a classic example of a project that requires the application of a design process. In this experiment, children are tasked with designing and building a device that solves a problem.
It has been an exciting and engaging project that, although challenging, has been enjoyed by all involved. Below are a few pictures of our designs and experiments.
Maths Extension Programme
Maths Extension classes for our seniors are fluid classes. This gives all students an opportunity to be a part of our sessions. Students are pre-tested on their upcoming unit of work and any student producing outstanding results are selected by their teachers to participate in Maths Extension for that period.
Currently we are working on an investigation style of learning. The Maths Extension students are given an investigation which reflect the current classroom topics and extends their learning in that area.

Coding Club
Coding Club has commenced this term with selected coders from Years 4-6! Our eager students are excited to use CS First to begin their coding learning journey. CS First is an easy-to-use computer science curriculum designed for students. CS First includes video content to teach kids coding basics with Scratch for CS First, a special version of the Scratch coding editor inside the CS First website. Our young coders are enjoying learning to block code and share their knowledge and skills with other coders in the club. We are looking forward to seeing what our coders can design, create and innovate in Coding Club this term.

Bite and Write Club
I will be running a Writing Club for students in Years 3/4 every Thursday lunchtime, starting Week 5. The sessions will be fun and stress-free, consisting of a range of quick writing games and short challenges. My aim is to provide students with the opportunity to write, share and reflect in a safe and relaxed environment, as well as fostering a love for literacy. All they will need to bring each week is their lunch, a notebook and a pen. Please encourage your child to come along.

Father & Son & Daughter Camp
Back by popular demand is this year's EFL Father Son & Daughter camp night. As always the focus for the event will be on building stronger family relationships though camping in a safe and controlled environment. The event is open to all Year 1 and above school students and families. The use of electronic devices during the camp is discouraged to allow people to "switch off" and reconnect on a non-tech level.
The camp is designed to be inclusive and open to people of all levels of camping experience. In the interest of giving everyone a fair go as numbers are limited, please select one of the dates and book only one of the sessions when booking.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Nick on 0401 089 494 .
Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Head Lice
How Do You Get Head Lice
Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact with another person who has head lice. This kind of contact includes doing group work at school, playing, or hugging.
Head lice can run from one head to another in seconds. Head lice cannot fly, jump or swim, but they can sometimes swing from one hair to another.
Brushes and combs are unlikely to transfer head lice or their eggs, as these are very hard to detach from the hair shaft.
Head lice are not spread through bed linen, clothing or head gear (hats and helmets) as they do not leave the scalp unless they are moving to another scalp, or unless they are dead or dying.
What are the signs and symptoms
Your scalp may itch as your skin reacts to the saliva of the head lice. This itchiness can take weeks to develop. If you have had head lice before, your skin may become less sensitive and there may be little or no itch.
You may also be able to see head lice crawling in your hair, although they can be difficult to spot as they move quickly.
What do they look like?
- Adult lice are usually dark brown and about 2 to 3 mm long.
- Hatchlings (young lice) are often a lighter brown colour and about 1 to 2 mm long.
- Eggs will be attached to the hair shaft. They can be very tiny and hard to see, especially newly-laid eggs close to the scalp. They are grey-white and about the size of a grain of salt.
How can I check for head lice
Unless you can easily see the head lice, the speed at which they can move makes checking dry hair unreliable.
To check hair for head lice:
- Carefully comb plenty of hair conditioner through dry hair. The conditioner slows the head lice down so they can be trapped in the comb.
- Comb hair again in sections using a metal fine-tooth ‘nit comb’ (available from most pharmacies).
- Wipe the waste from the comb on a white paper towel. Look for head lice and eggs using a magnifying glass in strong light, such as sunlight.
- Use a magnifying glass in strong light to examine hair close to the scalp, especially behind the ears and at the back of the neck.
Distract children while you check for head lice by offering them a favourite video or game, a book, or a head massage.
What can be mistaken for head lice?
Other objects in the hair can be mistaken for head lice or eggs. These include sand, dandruff, flakes of hair spray, ants, aphids, or other small insects.
What if I find head lice
- Check to see if anyone else living in your house has head lice – use the hair conditioner method described above.
- Choose the treatment method that best suits you and your family and follow the instructions carefully.
- Inform your school, child care centre, playgroup, neighbours and relatives so that other children and adults who have been in close contact can be checked.
- When the treatment is completed and all head lice and eggs have been removed, continue to check hair weekly for further outbreaks.
Stay home from school
Under the School Education Act 1999, if your child has head lice, the principal may keep him or her away from school until treatment has started.
Your child may return to school when all live head lice have been removed. There is no need to stay away from school if there are only a few remaining eggs, but you must continue treatment over the following 10 days to ensure that all eggs and hatchlings have been removed.
Treating head lice
How can I prevent further outbreaks
- Check hair regularly for head lice and eggs. Early treatment of head lice can prevent it spreading further to close contacts.
- Tie long hair back.
- Hair gel or mousse may help keep stray hair strands from coming in contact with other heads.
- Avoid sharing combs or brushes.
- If you have recently had head lice, leave brushes and combs in hot water for 10 minutes after use to kill any trapped head lice or eggs. Clean them with an old toothbrush to help remove any waste.
- Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, for example when working at the computer with others, playing or hugging.

Important message from City of Joondalup
Parking is not permitted on residential verges unless approval has been given by the resident.
It has come to the City’s attention that parents are parking on nearby residential verges.
Continued parking makes it difficult for residents to beautify and maintain their verges to a standard they would like.
Residents can request the City to undertake education and enforcement action if a vehicle is on the verge without their permission. This action may result in the vehicle being infringed.
