Keenan Media Center Updates

Back to School Issue, September 2014

Hello and Welcome Back!

We've been extra busy at school getting the new teachers, staff and students settled in as well as welcoming back our returning teachers, faculty and staff.
We are all anxiously awaiting the laptop distribution for 9th grade students that will be taking place very soon in conjunction with the Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Initiative. The DLE is gearing up with the addition of more powerful and additional wi-fi access points all over the building and in classrooms, the release of wi-fi codes by Information Technology (IT), and students now being able to use their cell phones in designated areas of the building.
For information on the DLE Initiative, please visit Keenan's homepage at

The media center staff would like to give a big "shout out" to our new teachers and staff:

And a warm welcome to our new Technology Educator, Zebulun Dinkins.

Ms. James and I welcome you all to the Keenan Raider family and to Keenan High School where Raiders Rule! We continuously strive to do our best to make the media center warm and inviting to everyone who enters its doors. If we ever fail to make you feel welcome, please let us know.

Informal Summer Reading Assignment Survey

As in past years, students return to school without having completed their summer reading assignment by the deadline. Out of curiosity, Ms. James and I decided to do an informal survey to found out why students had failed to complete their summer reading. Below are some of the comments we received:
  • I had to do my E2020 and I was too tired after that
  • It was summer
  • I couldn't get to the library
  • Some students don't have access to the public library because of their disability
  • Some students are not able to read independently and understand the books assigned
  • I didn't know we had to read a book
  • I never received anything about it
  • I did not know about the assignment
  • I came in from another district
  • I moved here from out of state
  • My child came from a middle school that is not one of Keenan's feeder schools
  • I was number four on the waiting list for the book at the public library
