Meet Our New Principal: Phalena Washington
On August 25th, Ms. Washington and several of the staff participated in a meet and greet with our parents and students. Ms. Washington began to build relationships with our community. We are fortunate to now serve under her leadership. As you have already witnessed she has created a positive vision towards change, transformation and innovation! We welcome you Ms. Washington and look forward to an AMAZING year!
SEL CORNER
Helping Students Regulate Their Trauma
As we plan for the year, educators must be more prepared than ever before.
We are face with challenging issues ahead including the impact of trauma on students and teachers after a very difficult year. The biggest impact of trauma and adversity is demonstrated in one’s ability to regulate or control thoughts, emotions, attention, and physical sensations.
As we think about the culture of well-being at GVSA, the first step should be to build a trauma-informed foundation, where students are regulated and ready to learn. You can use this poster to help your students become regulated and ready to learn social-emotional skills and academics.
