Providence Hall Junior High
1/18/21-1/22/21
Two Life Lessons From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
When thinking about what to share this week, I was excited and grateful that today is a day that celebrates the life of a man with a dream that he shared with the world. I can think of no other time in my last 42 years where his words have rung truer, and the lessons that he shared are a constantly in the forefront of my everyday actions.
Our mission statement at Providence Hall is: "At Providence Hall, we strive to provide an environment that encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly in an ever-changing global community." With this in mind, I urge you as the Providence Hall Community to take a moment this week, no matter what side of the political line you stand on, to talk to your children about your thoughts during the Presidential Inauguration, or perhaps some of the life lessons that can be learned from just a few of Dr. King's plethora of speeches and quotes.
“Hate Cannot Drive Out Hate. Only Love Can Do That.”
During these times, and many other times in history, many feel like using love to push out hate is an impossible and even immature idea. It isn't. You will never regret showing and leading with kindness. It isn't always easy, and it often feels uncomfortable, but it is possible! So don't ever give up hope on the great power of love (are you hearing the song, The Power of Love right now in your head, or is that just me??).
“If You Can't Fly Then Run, If You Can't Run Then Walk, If You Can't Walk Then Crawl, but Whatever You Do You Have to Keep Moving Forward.”
This right here is has got to be one of the best quotes for the time we are living in at this very moment. "Keep moving forward" should quite possibly be made into the theme song for 2020.
We, as a nation, have been tried and tested and often pushed to our breaking points. Yet over and over again, I see people continue to move forward both with their thinking and with their actions. As an educator, it has been miraculous to watch parents, students and entire educational communities refuse to give up on the duty of making sure our children continue to get an education. While it feels like we have been crawling for quite some time this year, I can tell you first hand we are finally starting to walk. When these kids get the chance to run again, there will be no stopping them.
As long as we keep moving forward as a nation, showing love and conviction to make powerful positive changes for EVERYONE, we will undoubtedly be on our way to flying, together, as a united nation.
Always remember Patriots... You are loved!

A Plea From The Yearbook Staff
Hey Patriots!
This is the Yearbook Staff and we need your help!!!
We are finishing our grade level pages and would love for all online students to be included but we don’t have everyone’s photo. Could all online and new students send us portraits that they have taken this year? We would be eternally grateful. You can send the pictures to Mrs. Winslow at jwinslow@providencehall.com
If you don’t have a portrait yet, no worries, the yearbook staff is available this next week after school and over the holiday to take your photos at the school. Just fill out this form for an appointment time. https://forms.gle/jutY31Gy3qviN8EA9
Finally, we want candid shots of all the amazing work and activities you are doing at home, so we are asking the parents or students to send us pictures of them working at home. We miss you all and remember we are United though we are part!
