Crook County FFA Chapter Update
The Crook County FFA Chapter members have had a very busy and successful Fall and Winter. Beginning in October, eight of our members began preparing to compete in the Central Oregon District Agricultural Sales Career Development Event held in November. Two teams of four, one beginning and one advanced, competed against teams from seven other Central Oregon FFA District schools to show their customer relations, advertising, order taking, customer acquisition, and salesmanship skills. Both teams placed second, and the advanced team qualified to compete at the State Ag Sales CDE in Corvallis. The qualifying team of Gabby Wood, Tana Templeton, Andraya McNary, and Robert Silva had a successful experience competing for the first time at the state level.
In January, members began preparing for a number of Leadership Development Events that would be held in February and March. Additionally, members began preparing applications for the Oregon FFA State Degree and District and State Level Proficiency Awards. Two of our members successfully applied for and presented a defense of their FFA Experience in order to receive the highest degree that the state of Oregon can award FFA members. Gabby Wood and Andraya McNary will receive their State FFA Degrees at the State convention in March. Three of our members prepared applications for consideration for a District Proficiency Award in their areas of Supervised Agricultural Experience. Rilee Dennis applied in the area of Diversified Agricultural Production, earning a Gold Award at the district level and earning the right to represent our district for consideration of this award at the State Convention in March. Grace Budre applied in the area of Diversified Livestock, received Gold, and will represent our district at the state convention. Callie Winebarger applied in the area of Beef Production and received a Gold award.
Our Chapter Historian, Justin Mitchell, and Secretary, Callie Winebarger, developed a technology scrapbook of our last year of activities that won the district event and will compete at the state convention. Our Chapter Treasurer, Madison Fall, developed our Chapter Treasurer's Book and placed second at the district, and will also attend the state convention. Rilee Dennis, our Chapter Secretary, prepared our chapter Secretary's Book, placing third at the district level. Collectively, the group prepared the District's First Place set of Chapter Books.
One member, Bailey Forseth, learned and presented the FFA Creed at the district event in February. A group of six members prepared for the Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event, placing third at the district event. Seven freshmen made up our Conduct of Chapter Meetings team, in which they had to learn how to run an organized chapter meeting and demonstrate their understanding of how to use parliamentary procedure to deal with a motion presented during a meeting. This team placed first at the district-level event and moved on to the sectional event three weeks later. They placed second at the sectional level and earned the right to compete at the State Level event at the State Convention on March 18th.
Our FFA year has been busy, and so much more is coming up. Wish our members well!
