Dr Cordero’s research focuses on the health of mothers and children and preconception approaches to improve pregnancy outcomes. He is the Co-Director of four research programs, the Puerto Rico Test site for Exploring Contamination Threats (PROTECT) program, that examines environmental factors associated with preterm births; the Center for Research on Early Childhood Exposure and Development (CRECE) that studies how mixtures of environmental exposures affect the health and development of infants and children in Puerto Rico and the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes in Puerto Rico (ECHO-PR), a program that examines environmental risks during pregnancy and childhood and their link to adverse childhood outcomes. He has published over 100 scholarly articles, book chapters. He is the recipient of many awards, most recently the Sedgwick Medal, the highest honor conferred by the American Public Health Association.
