Digital Learning Day
Dear Parents,
As you know Friday, March 9th is an at home Digital Learning Day for all Fulton Schools students. Our teachers have been working with our technology coach to create meaningful assignments for their students.
The assignments provided include activities which support the standards taught as well assist them in making real world connections to learning. The attachments for your child’s grade level include activities for each content area as well as Art, Music and PE.
We have partnered with Sandy Springs Public Library for families who do not have access to devices or for those families needing access for more than one child at a time.
Each student in grades PreK-2 should spend no more than 90 minutes working on their assignments. Students in grades 3-5 should spend no more than 3 hours working on their assignments. Paper copies of the assignments were sent home with your child today, Wednesday, March 7, 2018. If you did not receive paper copies and would like them, please contact your child’s teacher via email.
All teachers will be available via email only on Friday, March 9th to answer any questions about Digital Learning Day. All assignments are due on Wednesday, March 14th, 2018.
If you need additional support or have questions, please do not hesitate to email your child’s teacher at any time. We are all in this together! Happy Digital Learning Day!
Queridos padres,

Exxon Mobil
Thank you to our neighborhood Exxon Mobil, located at 8325 Roswell Road, for donating $1000 to our school to support our STEM lab to enhance teaching in the areas of Science and Math. The Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance program provides grants annually and we are fortunate to have been selected again! Please visit the EXXON MOBILE station at the corner of Northridge and Roswell Road (store: Circle M #90) and be sure to thank them for supporting our school. Generous businesses like Exxon Mobil support our students’ success and remind us that quality education positively impacts our entire community.

We are grateful to this business/community partners for investing in our children.
Preventing the Flu & Flu Outbreak @ DSES
What else can you do to help prevent the spread of the flu and other infectious illnesses? The first thing is simple….WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY! Wash hands often with soap and water. If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer/rub. Did you know the single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of infectious illnesses is washing your hands? While most of us already
know this, it is sometimes hard to remember this simple little important task during a busy day.
Some additional preventive measures you can do to help reduce the spread of flu and other infectious
illnesses include:
- Teach children not to share personal items like drinks, food, eating utensils or other personal items such as towels, combs, brushes, clothes, and cosmetics
- Wash coats, jackets, sheets; Wipe down lunch boxes with disinfecting wipes
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and properly dispose of used tissues. If you do not have a tissue, use your elbow, arm or sleeve when coughing or sneezing instead of the hand (avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth – germs spread this way);
- Wash athletic practice clothing each day, and shower after any contact sport;
- Stay home if you are sick and not going to a medical care facility, especially during the first days of illness when symptoms are more severe and the infection is most contagious. Return to work or school only after symptoms have improved and after you have had no fever for at least 24 hours.
- Try to avoid close contact with people who are sick;
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu. Viruses lurk in places you wouldn’t think. Everyone is vulnerable to picking up viruses.
- Custodians will play close attention to disinfecting bathrooms, door knobs and surfaces (tables/desks) etc.
- Make sure your vaccinations are up-to-date;

DSES Career Day
National School Breakfast Week
National School Breakfast Week is March 5th-8th! This year’s theme, “I Heart School Breakfast” encourages parents, students, and school officials to get social over school breakfast. Speaking a language kids understand, we are ready to show-and-tell all the benefits of a healthy school breakfast. Students who eat breakfast this week will be entered to win the Grand Prize!
School Social Workers Week
Hello!
Governor Nathan Deal has proclaimed March 5th-9th as School Social Work Week in the state of Georgia.
Fulton County School Social Workers are the link between home, community and school. School Social Workers are equipped to identify, assess and explore the barriers that impact student success.
As a reminder, as we enter into the spring season, please ensure that students are healthy, well-rested, and prepared for school each day!
School starts at 7:40 am and students should be in class and ready to learn at that time! Grade level classes are competing each month to win “No Tardy Parties”, this reward is given to the class in each grade level that has the LEAST amount of tardies for the month! Please help to ensure your student is at school each day and on time!!!
Also, if students are absent, please ensure a written excuse letter is provided to the front desk or teacher within 5 days of the students return to school!
I am happy to be a part of the DSES family and welcome you all to reach out to me via email if you need Social Work Assistance!!!

Parent Survey - Please Participate
Every year, the state rates schools based on several data points. One of these data points is a survey that all staff, students, and parents complete about our school. You may complete the survey using your personal computer, smartphone or tablet. If you do not have access to the Internet, you are welcome to take the survey at DSES. We encourage all parents to take the survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. No parent participation or low parent participation will negatively impact our school's School Climate Star Rating from the state. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Results from the survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. We greatly appreciate your time and effort!
