Girl Scout Troop 2205

Dec 05, 2015

Recap of Last Meeting

The girls voted to complete two Holiday service projects: a toy drive for the flood victims in South Carolina (more on this in a minute) and to spend $60 of Troop money to complete a food basket/bag for a needy family.

We welcomed our newest member to the Troop, Ava Staniewicz. She attends Ballast Point Elementary School and this is her first year in Girl Scouting. We're so glad she's chosen us and we're all looking forward to getting to know her better.

We also worked on our Troop Energy Pledge. The girls came up with some great ideas to decrease the energy they use or decrease products that require a lot of energy during production.

Now for that toy drive. I love that the girls are so altruistic. I think they got this idea from working on care packages at the Career Day festivities that morning. After a few discussions with the Gorrie Cares adult sponsors, Sydney and I have made the decision to table this project for this year, at least. We think this will become a good planning project for the girls so that they realize the amount of planning and work that goes into a toy drive. This may be a good Bronze award project for them. We'll discuss this with the girls at our next meeting.

Budding Botantists Field Trip

The girls had a good time and learned about how important pollinators, especially honey bees and butterflies, are to our food supply. They each received a milkweed plant to bring home to plant to start a butterfly garden. For those who could not make the field trip, Sydney and I will be devising some makeup activities for your daughters to complete.
