Digital e-Books & Audiobooks

Sora

Sora is our newest digital resource. Users may borrow ebooks and audiobooks from JISD and the San Antonio Public Library. What's so great about Sora? Not only can you find the newest books in whichever format you prefer, you can get words defined within the text, highlight favorite quotes or text, save notes or annotations to your Google Drive, and select the font and text size that is most comfortable for you! If you need help accessing it, please see the video below.

Sync Audiobooks for Teens

Sync Audiobooks offers two FREE audiobooks each week. Once you download the audiobooks, they are yours to keep so that one may read them at leisure. Readers must use the new JISD Sora resource to download the books. Users also must register HERE. You can also sign up for reminders and see the titles for each week at the link also.

Battle of the Books

The JISD Battle of the Books competition is for all fifth-grade students throughout the district. Those fifth graders that missed the competition this past April, due to the pandemic, will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual competition this Fall. Look for more details in August. For the upcoming fifth grade students, we hope to have a face-to-face competition in April, as we have done in the past, but we will go virtual, if necessary. Either way, we will have a fun competition, and our students will be exposed to fifteen diverse, fun, and engaging titles. See the lists for both years below, and remember, most of these titles are available in Sora.

City-Wide Reading Initiatives

San Antonio Public Library

The San Antonio Public Library is offering people of all ages opportunities to read, learn, explore, and connect. Please join us as we Imagine a world of possibilities!

Program dates are June 1 - August 31, 2020. Check back soon to learn how to participate.

Bibliotech

Click HERE to learn more about Bibliotech's Summer Reading Program. Participants will read one book, one magazine, one comic, listen to one audiobook, and watch one movie. Each time you complete one, fill out the survey to get on the leader board. It can't get much easier or more fun than that! And it's something in which the whole family can participate.

Scholastic

We applaud parents, educators, public librarians and community leaders who continue to adjust to the unprecedented circumstances we face as a community. We know it's critically important to keep kids engaged in summer reading to ensure their academic success in the fall.

That's why we're reimagining summer by providing reading opportunities starting May 4. Our Scholastic Summer #ReadAPalooza is free, easy to use and empowers kids to read and learn through our new Home Base experience. Head over to: https://bit.ly/3f1smWm
