SPHS Weekly Updates
Week of January 11 - January 16
Monday, January 11th is a B Day!
In Observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day there is No School next Monday, January 18th.
End of Course (EOC) Exams start on Tuesday!
State End of Course Exams (EOC) are administered in English II, Algebra I and Biology I in the fall semester. Our EOC testing window is January 12th - January 29th. We are required to have all students taking EOC courses virtually and face to face to take their tests on campus. If you have a student currently taking English II, Algebra I and Biology I please review the calendar below to determine when they will be taking their exam.
Students must test on their assigned day. The State EOC will count as the final exam for these courses, and will count as 10% of the final course grade. Students who are absent for testing will receive a "0". Students who do not complete the EOC risk failure to earn credit for the course. (Some students may be scheduled to take the US History & the English I exam during the testing window. They will be contacted individually with test dates.)
Congratulations to our Quarter 1 Principal Scholars and Honor Roll Students
At the end of each quarter students are recognized for their academic accomplishments. These recognitions are based on quarterly GPAs and are not cumulative.

The SC Governor’s School for Science and Math offers an Accelerate virtual engineering program. This program provides an unmatched academic experience in a fast paced, non-traditional learning environment. Students accepted into this program have the opportunity to earn up to 49 college credits, participate in team building experiences and annual summer camps. Students will also be able to explore real world engineering, develop leadership and communication skills as well as industry internship opportunities after graduation. TEAM UP is an application-based high school engineering program for 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-grade students in the state of South Carolina. Through a series of gateway courses, students learn fundamental problem-solving skills, gain exposure to various engineering fields, develop an understanding of the engineering design process, and acquire STEM content knowledge. TEAM UP also aims to provide students with information that will help them make thoughtful decisions about their future college studies and careers. Most courses within TEAM UP are delivered through live interactive video-conferencing. Additional courses consist of asynchronous online coursework and weekly one-hour synchronous webinars. We would like to welcome you virtually to South Pointe High School to provide you with an opportunity to learn about the innovative curriculum and educational experiences students receive via the Accelerate and Team Up programs hosted on the campus by the Governor’s School. During the visit you will learn more about the rigorous and selective application process and tour the Accelerate/Team Up classrooms. In addition, you will hear from Governor’s School representatives, Accelerate/Team Up students and other staff to gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities available for your high performing student.
Feel free to contact Queen Smith (Accelerate Facilitator) at QSmith@rhmail.org for more information.
