MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We have a new Kiosk to sign your student in/out. The Chromebook that uses a google sheet is just around the corner from where the books used to be near the front office doors. This new technology will allow us to keep your students records updated in a more timely manner.
Please let us know in the office if you have any questions or problems with the system.

American Education Week- November 13-17
American Education week is November 13th-17th. Please join us as we celebrate public education and honor the individuals (students and staff) doing their part to ensure that all our children receive the very best education.
We will have an optional Spirit Week here at Middletown Elementary School as we celebrate this week (see days below). In addition to our Spirt Week, families can show their generosity to the MES staff by making donations throughout the week.
Items needed and appreciated are:
Tissues, Post-its, Pencils, Sharpies, Black or colored Dry Erase Markers (thick & thin tips), Wide Ruled spiraled notebooks, Folders, Address labels, Hand sanitizers, Lysol Wipes, Highlighters, Reams of colored paper/cardstock, packs of 12x18 colored construction paper, crayons, Gel Pens, crayola markers and adult scissors/staplers.
PE is in need of basketballs, pool noodles & general purpose vinyl tape.
Music is in need of egg shakers, lummi sticks, tambourines, guiro(scrapers) & drumstick mutes(orange).
Art is in need of fine line and ultra fine line sharpies, colorful crayola markers, black water based markers, pencils & crayons.
Food Drive @ MES
From Monday Nov 13th through Thursday Nov 16th, Girl Scout Troop 37105 (4th graders) will be running a food drive for the Middletown Food Bank.
Boxes will be put in each classroom and will count the number of items donated throughout that week. The winning class will earn a popsicle party! Look for posters coming up this week. The girls will be on the morning announcements each day next week with reminders as well!

2023-2024 Family Survey
Frederick County Public Schools invites you to participate in our school's 2023-2024 Family Survey. Your feedback is important to us! Your responses will remain anonymous and will be combined with the responses of other families.

Attendance and Leaving Early Notes
New this year, MES is asking parents to email all sick and vacation excuse notes to the teacher and MiES.attendance@fcps.org. All notes for students leaving early should be emailed to the teacher, loretta.shafer@fcps.org and christina.faron@fcps.org
Notes brought in with students continue to be acceptable and preferred.
Elementary Band and Orchestra Website
The instrumental music program is open to all 4th and 5th graders. Mr. Cheston and Mr. Jones are looking forward to another great year in the band and orchestra!!

Angel Tree for Christmas
The Salvation Army is offering their Angel Tree for Christmas assistance once again. Please see the fliers for application information.
The Central Maryland Heritage League is offering Freedom’s Jubilee, a Celebration of Emancipation & The Abolitionist Movement on September 16. See the flier for more information.
The 4th Annual Seed to Root Black history celebration will be held on February 16, 2024. Interested grade K-12 student performers should apply by December 8. See the flier for more information.
