OAISD Health and Physical Education

Summer, 2022 Update

Ottawa Area ISD Mission Statement

Recognizing the strong link between health and learning, OAISD health and wellness consultation and related support services aim to support schools in the implementation of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Model including supporting a nationally recognized comprehensive PreK-12 health education curriculum, student health behavior data and analysis, assessment of the school health environment to support the whole child, and adequate access to health services including behavioral health.

Summer "Fun"

With everchanging technology issues, the LiveBinder information that many of you had access to seemed to not be accessible much of the time. This summer, I have been updating the resources and then switched over to Google Folders. I tried to make the resources as user-friendly as possible. Many of the resources can be found on the OAISD Health and Prevention webpage. However, if you would like more content resources, find them in the OAISD Health and Prevention Resource Google Folder.

K-12 MMH and SEL Alignment

An alignment document that covers the K-12 grade levels of the Michigan Model for Health (MMH) curriculum and the SEL competencies from Collaborative on Academic and Social Emotional Learning (CASEL) was recently developed.

It starts by stating: "The health standards, skills, and topics taught in MMH and the SEL Competencies put forth by the Collaborative on Academic and Social Emotional Learning (CASEL) are tightly aligned. In this document you will first find key components of each and the overall big picture of this alignment; followed by a smaller grain size illustration of the alignment of Michigan Model for Health (MMH) by grade level, topic, learning objective, and standards to the SEL Competencies and their key indicators."
