This is an app that allows the student to view the body in an anatomical manner. There are 3D visuals and colour coding tools; the body image rotates and you are able to highlight specific parts of the body.
This app is free and it is compatible with iPads and iPhones.
A teacher would be able to use this app in a biology class. I would use this if one of my students was having trouble learning where parts of the body are. In biology 30 I would use this app to specifically to show my class where the parts of the digestive tract are (ex: stomach, intestines, etc.). This application would come in extremely handy when students are having a hard time visualizing the body.
3D Molecules Viewer and Editor Lite
This is an app that allows the students to build 3D molecules of all sorts. It also gives information about chemical element symbols. This app also includes a tutorial of how to create molecules and how to delete them.
This app is free and it is compatible with iPads and iPhones.
I would use this app in a chemistry class, specifically in chemistry 30 when it is crucial for the students to know the chemical makeup of molecules and how t make them. I would g through the curriculum content and lecture the students on what they are required to know and then I would allow them time to use the app and test their knowledge.
HudsonAlpha iCell
This app allows the students to view different kinds of cells and the different parts of cells along with a description of the different parts of the cell. You can look at the difference between animal, plant, and bacteria cells.
This app is free and it is compatible with iPads and iPhones.
I would use this application in a biology class where I was teaching about the differences between cells. This app would be super helpful if it would help the students to see animations of the different cells and be able to zoom in and control what they are looking a. I think this app would also be a great study tool for the students and it would be very easy to show them different pictures from the app and test to see if they know about different cell types.
3D Brain
This app allows you to zoom in and discover 29 different parts of the brain. The application gives a description of the parts of the brain, what they do and what happens to them if they become injured.
This app is free and it is compatible with iPads and iPhones.
I would use this app during a class to see where my class is in regards to knowing the brain and its structures. I would zoom into different regions of the brain and then call on students randomly to have them answer questions like: What part of the brain is this? What would happen if this part of the brain was damaged?
Mitosis
This application walks the user through cell division and everything that happens during cell division. It also shows real pictures cells dividing.
This app is free and it is compatible with iPads and iPhones.
I would use this app to reinforce what I taught my class about cell division. If one of my students was having difficulty understanding the concepts of cell division I would go through the quiz, that is provided, with them and then look at the images and process that they are having trouble with.
