Bonillas Traditional Magnet School
February Monthly Newsletter
From Ms. Ambrosio
Another thing we do to celebrate Love of Reading week is we have an annual door decorating contest, where each classroom selects a book or theme centered around reading and they decorate their door to show off their ideas. Doors are judged by Student Council representatives and their sponsors, and winners receive a free book to add to their classroom library.
The last activity we have to celebrate Love of Reading week is our annual Book Character Parade which will be held on Wednesday February 13th at 1:15 pm. Students are encouraged to choose a favorite book character to dress as and we will hold a parade, where we will walk the halls showing off our costumes. Look for specific details to be sent home soon about this event.
The week of February 11-15 we will also be holding our Spring Scholastic Book Fair. The book fair raises money for our school library to purchase new materials for students. Please plan to come support the book fair.
Also February 14-15th are Early Release days for Spring Parent Teacher Conferences. Dismissal both days will be at 11:45 am. Students will eat lunch here at school before dismissal. Your child's teacher will contact you if they need to set up a conference with you, but if you don't hear from them and would like a conference, please contact them to request a time and date. The conference days are a wonderful opportunity for parents and teachers to sit together to discuss students strengths, areas of growth, and plan for student success as a team. Please make every effort to meet with your child's teacher during these days.
I'm also excited to announce that on Friday February 15th our Student Council is hosting a Rodeo Dance for all students and families from 5:30-7:30 in the cafeteria and courtyard. More information will be sent home soon, but please call the office if you have questions or would like to volunteer.
As you can see this is a very busy time of year, so a reminder that attendance is crucial, especially as we move closer and closer to AZMerit and AIMS Science testing which will begin right after spring break. More details and calendars with dates of testing will go home before spring break, but please know its fast approaching and we all want to be sure our students are as prepared as possible.
Registration for the 2019-2020 School Year
Kindergarten Welcome Events
If you or anyone you know has a student that will be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2019, and will be starting kindergarten at Bonillas next year we will hold welcome events on Wednesday February 27th at 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Parents need to only attend one event and should plan to complete registration for their child that day, in addition to learn about our program, and what their child will experience in kindergarten when they start next year. Parents should bring with them the child's original birth certificate, proof of residency (something with parent name and address), and up to date shot records. Copies will be collected for the files and are required to complete the registration process fully. Look for more information to be sent home on this event soon. If you are NOT in the Bonillas neighborhood, you must apply for magnet status through the School Community Department, and be accepted for placement BEFORE you can begin registration. Applications are available at the school or online at www.tusd1.org.
From the Office
Also, please help us to make arrangements for after school with your child before they come to school when at all possible. We have been receiving a lot of phone calls asking us to give students messages during the school day, which we can do, but it does interrupt instruction which is not something we want to do. Also if you do have to change arrangements please notify us as soon as possible. When we get called after 2:30 to deliver a message it becomes difficult because students and teachers are wrapping up lessons, preparing homework for the end of the day and messages very close to the end of the day are hard to relay. Thank you for your help with this.
