Columbia Central Weekly Bulletin
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 6, 2022
As we approach the end of Trimester 1, our team has taken a deep look at student absences and tardies. We have already seen students fall into the Chronic Absenteeism category, where they have missed more than five percent of the total number of school days thus far. If you look at the total number of days this school year, missing more than nine days for the year will put a student in that category. Please know that it doesn't matter if your child has all excused absences. The state counts unexcused and excused absences as the same, when it comes to Chronic Absenteeism. When absences and tardies become excessive, there is a significant loss of instructional time, which results in much lower academic performances for students repeatedly missing school and coming to school late. Further, students that have poor attendance struggle to build relationships with students and staff, and often come to school feeling alone, as they have missed out on so much learning and connecting with people. I have read hundreds of articles on student attendance and all of the research out there suggests there is a direct correlation between attendance and students' social, emotional, and academic well-being.
We care about all of our students and always want the best for them, which is why we are always encouraging our students to come to school on time every day. Please work with us to ensure your child has good attendance. If there is anything I can do to help, please reach out to me at the school, or through a phone call or email.
Remember, we have no school this coming Tuesday. Also, take a look at the blurb below regarding our Veterans Day Program we have this Friday. If you served in the Armed Forces, we would love to recognize you on this special day.
Have a great week!
