Goal Gains

These are some KEY take-aways from our time with Sue:

My Biggest Insight/Learning Was….

  • I have been thinking a lot about the functions of Shared Reading and how to identify key characteristics in order to find a good Big Book. - Jodi Morrison

  • My biggest insight was making sure students are using the higher level strategies in their reading.-Jennifer Buzan

  • My biggest insight was learning how to demonstrate good reading while reading to a large group...reading the book in your hands instead of holding the book up for students to see the pictures. - Missy Kocher

  • I also agree with the idea of modeling correct reading in front of a group - reading and then showing the picture - Aida Samaniego

  • We need to have students “linger longer” with struggling readers until student has developed CONSISTENT reading behaviors- Julie Hill

  • I My biggest insight was that I learned how to promote Self Monitoring in my readers. I am more aware of the effectiveness of cross checking. - Teresa Baker

  • I loved the clarification that we can use a book for two days and do not send it home, but keep it for next GR group. Also, “a good intro makes the difference” Dinorah H. Camargo.

  • Something important was to encourage my students not to use their finger while reading to improve fluency and comprehension. Miguel Meza

  • Using the words, “Something tricked you” so that the students think it’s like a game and you aren’t identify the error for them. -Brittany McLeod
