News and Notes August 29th
A Note from the Principal
We hope you have a great Labor Day weekend!
- Lunch and Pizza orders are due by August 30th at 1:00!
- Please remember that anyone entering the K-8 Marquette parking lot at morning drop off or pick up should enter by making a right turn only by heading North on Quincy. Additionally, when leaving the K-8 parking lot you should only exit by making a right turn (even if you need to go to the ECDC). Failure to do this not only goes against our policies and procedures but has also resulted in more than one fender bender over the last few years. I strongly encourage everyone to watch the drop off/pick-up video.
Week at a Glance
-No School-Labor Day
-Happy Birthday to Miss Ginny
-Happy Birthday to Mrs. Dowdell
-8th Grade takes class visit to Cascia Hall
-Spirit Dress Day
-Rosary/Adoration at 8:15 in Church (Parents welcome but must sign in to office)

Unfamiliar with RISE? RISE stands for Religious Inclusive Student Education. Its mission is to provide children with special needs the opportunity for a Catholic education in their home parish school. Marquette was the first, and remains the only, parish school in the Tulsa Diocese to implement a program for children with special needs. With Marquette RISE as its model, Bishop Kelley High School started its own inclusion program during the 2018-19 school year! Our RISE program has its own budget, and students in the RISE program pay the same tuition rates as other parishioners. This is made possible by fundraisers such as RISE Trivia Night. The RISE program is something of which all Marquette parents and Christ the King parishioners should be proud, and we would love your support of this much-anticipated annual event!
Please join us for a fun team trivia competition emceed by Jeopardy! contestant, local pub trivia host, and Marquette parent Tim Edwards. Form a table of ten, or purchase an individual ticket and you will be placed on a team. Trivia doors open in the Marquette Vision Gym at 6:30 with competition beginning at 7:15.
Up for a drink and need some food for thought before Trivia? Back by popular demand, the pre-Trivia cocktail party "Cram Session" will kick off at 5:30 under the porte cochere. Enjoy live music from the Ben Neikirk Trio, delicious cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres provided by Ludger's, and the opportunity to hobnob with Fr. Elkin, Fr. Webb, Mr. Luetkemeyer, and Mrs. McGough. Have a conflict and can't make Trivia? Stopping by the Cram Session for a post-work drink and bite to eat is a great way to support RISE!
Shirts are for sale at the link above. RISE shirts may be worn in the big school on 9/20 and in the ECDC on 9/19 and/or 9/20.
September Lunch Menu
Coffee Talk with Principal Luetkemeyer
A goal I have set for myself this year is to be more available to families. In an effort to better communicate what we are doing as a school and, perhaps more importantly, listen to what families have to say, I will be hosting multiple “Coffee Talk with Principal Luetkemeyer” sessions throughout the year. I invite you to come by the school library, grab a cup of coffee, and hear about the latest school developments as well as share your thoughts. As partners in education, we all have a vested interest in developing strong relationships of mutual trust to meet our shared goal of educating our children. All dates have 8:00 and 12:30 time slots. Dates include...

St. Cecilia Children’s Choir 2019-20 Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord!
The St. Cecilia Children’s Choir is for boys and girls in kindergarten through 4th grade. The Choir learns Catholic music as co-directed by Christ the King Gallery Choir member Donna Reneau and Marquette’s 5th-8th grade music teacher and Christ the King’s Minister of Music, Tom Starnes. The Choir sings at the 9:15 Mass approximately once a month (dates will be provided), and the Choir also performs in the pageant preceding Mass on Christmas Eve.
The Choir meets after school each Tuesday, beginning September 10, 2019. Upon dismissal from school, the kids will be directed to the foyer in front of Fletcher Hall to check in for practice. They sign in, have a few minutes to play, eat a snack, and then rehearse until 4 p.m. Parents pick up the kids in the Fletcher Hall foyer (or the kids can be taken to after school care, as applicable).
We hope you’ll consider joining the fun!

The Diocese of Tulsa and VIRTUS provide a web-based online training program in English and Spanish that specializes in helping churches and religious organizations create safe environments for children and youth. That Man is You
We have a very exciting new men’s ministry that is coming to our parish. That Man is You! (TMIY) is a once a week program that will address the pressures and temptationsthat men face in our modern culture. The program is designed to harmonize current social and medical science with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the wisdom of the saints to help develop the vision of a man that is fully alive! This completely FREE program will launch on Thursday morning, September 5th from 6:00-7:30 am. We will have breakfast and meet at this time every Thursday for the 13 weeks to follow. We encourage everyone with any interest to checkout the TMIY website here.

2019-2020 Marquette School Theme
Heavenly Father as we begin this new school year I pray that you would give us an understanding and discerning heart in our thoughts, words, and actions with our children, with their teachers, and with our fellow parents. Help us to be slow to anger but quick to respond to the needs, disappointment, and problems that others are facing.
Keep me Lord from developing a judgmental spirit that can so often jump to the wrong conclusions and prevent me for speaking too hastily, which can so often cause sadness and pain to those that are in need and trouble.
Lord as a community we want to be used by You as a channel of blessing and of loving compassion. Teach us, Lord, how to be the models for our children and we pray that You would change us from the inside out to be the person that You would have me to be. Lord, bless this school as we celebrate 100 years of Catholic education and may we do all things pleasing to You. Amen.
- For our students, parents, and teachers that we will experience a year of faith-filled development.
- For an increase in vocations within our Christ the King/Marquette community.
- For our Priests and for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and religious life.
- For those separated from their families due to military deployment.
