District Social Workers to Host QPR Training for Interested Community Members
West Linn-Wilsonville Social Workers will host QPR Training for interested members of the community on Dec. 15 from 2-4 p.m. QPR Training stands for Question, Persuade, Refer. QPR is an evidence-based suicide prevention training that teaches skills to notice when someone is strugling with their mental health, talk with them, and refer them to the appropriate supports.
QPR training is like CPR training in that you don't need to be licensed or a professional to use it. You don't need to be a licensed counselor to help a person who is thinking about suicide.
This QPR Training is free for community members but is limited in the amount of people that can participate. You must be 18 or older to take this training. The session will not be recorded and there will be future trainings.

Robotics Students Provide PPE for WLWV Staff, Mentor Younger Students in STEAM Activities
Robotics students from West Linn and Wilsonville High School have stayed plenty busy since the spring, producing upwards of 1,000 face shields for West Linn-Wilsonville students and staff.
Students have continued to design and 3-D print high-quality face shields, donating large quantities to the district’s Facilities Department.
West Linn High School Robotics Team 7034 students have taken things to the next level recently, creating a virtual STEAM day camp for students in grades 4-7 across the district. Students have continued to collaborate with peers, learning about STEAM through hands-on learning. Robotics students provided supplies that younger students have access to at home, connecting with Robotics student-leaders through Zoom.
Robotics students also helped younger students across the district this past week, encouraging participation in Hour of Code activities. Hour of Code is a nationwide week dedicated to computer science, with an emphasis on coding activities. To view Hour of Code activities, or to see other Team 7034 projects, please visit their website.
West Linn Rotary Recognizes WLWV Nutrition Services Staff
West Linn-Wilsonville Nutrition Services Staff are among the many dedicated staff members across the district who have demonstrated unwavering commitment and service to students and families during this unique 2020-21 school year. Despite Comprehensive Distance Learning, fluxuations in COVID-19 case rates across Clackamas County, and multiple versions of the district's meal service program, nutrition services staff have continued to provide thousands of meals for students daily across West Linn and Wilsonville.
The West Linn Rotary Club recognized those efforts in a major way on Friday, Dec. 11, donating gift cards to all nutrition services staff. The donation serves as a token of appreciation for some of the district's most important essential workers, who have ensured students continue to receive meal service this school year. Nutrition Services staff were surprised with individual gift cards toward the end of their lunch service on Dec. 11. Thank you to our dedicated staff and to the West Linn Rotrary Club for your efforts and generosity.
Inclement Weather during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)
Decisions to close school due to inclement weather will continue to be made based on safety and access to learning/school site. While students are all in CDL or enrolled in the WLWV K12 Online Program (WKOP), there is a strong likelihood that school could remain “open” and students can continue learning at home during inclement weather such as snow or ice. When inclement weather includes heavy winds or power outages that affect internet access, there may be a reason to delay or close school depending on the impact and access to online learning.
If the school district closes due to inclement weather, any on-site classes or activities would also be canceled. This includes Limited In-Person Instruction (LII) and co-curricular or evening activities. Any delays or closures will apply to both students in CDL and the WLWV K12 Online Program.
The district will continue to provide communication about the status of school (delay or closure) through FlashAlert and alerts on the district website. We encourage families to sign up for FlashAlert early, and families can always check the district website for the latest information.
New Meal Delivery System Has Started
Our new meal delivery service is well underway. To learn more about the meal program, or to sign up to have meals delivered to your home, please visit the district website.
