We would have loved to make this a school field trip, but the turnaround time is too quick. We would need approval for a field trip, but we wanted families to have the opportunity to register on their own.
All the information is below this message. Be on the lookout though for more opportunities for Pirate Meetups!

9-11 Graders: Youth Leadership Council
Search Underway for Members of Newly Formed Granville County Youth Leadership Council
The Granville County Youth Leadership Council (GCYLC) is searching for inspiring High School aged youth leaders to form the Granville County Youth Leadership Council. Applications are being accepted through September 30, 2022.
The GCYLC is being formed as a partnership between the Granville County Board of Commissioners and NC Cooperative Extension. The council will offer 20-25 youth from diverse backgrounds across the county a chance to participate in a leadership development program while serving as ambassadors and youth voices to the County Commissioners and other local boards. The Council is being created to elevate youth voices and contribute to community development, programming and vision while providing youth a unique opportunity to be drivers of their own ideas from conceptualization to implementation and reflection.
The GCYLC is looking for young people in grades 9-11 who are interested in partnering with other youth from around the county who are passionate about making a difference. Members will also be encouraged to represent GCYLC at board meetings, conferences, and special events.
Students interested in applying should be enrolled in high school, live in Granville County, and be available for meetings at least one time per month. Community, youth, and faith-based organizations and educators are encouraged to nominate youth. If interested in applying, visit www.granvilleylc.weebly.com or contact Charissa Puryear at cmpuryea@ncsu.edu or 919-603-1350.
College Fair: September 14th
CACRAO (Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers) is excited to be hosting again this year the annual college fair for students in Granville County at South Granville High School on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 from 2:00-3:00pm. We anticipate 65-70 universities attending this year.
As you plan, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- All students attending the fair should register at https://app.strivescan.com/students. After registering, each student will receive a barcode to present to each college they talk with. ALL COLLEGES WILL BE USING THE STRIVESCAN PORTAL TO CONNECT WITH STUDENTS. Students can bring their barcode printed out or on their device. *Please communicate this very important step with the students are visiting the fair.
- Encourage students to bring a bag/folder to collect college materials as they speak with admissions counselors.
- Please communicate with Ms. Parker about additional needs your school may have.
