Counselor Corner

Indian Hills Elementary

A Message from Mrs. Akin

Thankfulness always abounds this time of year — with good reason! There are lots of things to be thankful for. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be the school counselor at Indian Hills. Each day is an opportunity to learn and grow. I am so thankful for the relationships I have been able to build with many of my students. I am so grateful for ALL OF OUR CHIEFS. We are all walking side by side daily in our journeys together in becoming the best versions of ourselves we can be.

Counseling Activities at a Glance

Monthly Focus for Kindergarten-5th Grade: Responsibility

Teaching responsibility is important. Lessons this month have taught students what responsibility is. We have discussed the meaning of it, as well as what responsibility might look like and sound like in real life. We discussed responsibility at school, home and in the community. This is a life skill that they will need to practice throughout their lives.

Monthly Focus for 6th Grade: Career Planning and Research

This month 6th Grade students did career research and planning. Students researched the career of their choice. Although they may not know what path they will take after high school, the academic progress, social skills, work habits and problem-solving skills they develop now will play a critical role in preparing them for their future success.

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch is a fun way to meet new friends, reconnect with old friends, engage in exciting conversations, play fun games, learn something new, share stories and have lunch somewhere other than the cafeteria. Lunch Bunch is held in the counselor’s office. Students go to the cafeteria to get their food, like they normally would do, then take their tray back to the counseling office. Lunch bunch will be offered at randomly selected dates up until May. If your child is selected, they will receive a personal invitation the day before their group meets. Lunch bunch provides students with an opportunity to meet with fellow classmates on a more personal level.
