Happy Monday, NBS!
March 2021 has officially arrived. So much has changed in the last year, and it seems like just yesterday we were planning our annual Pancake Breakfast and Spring Book Fair. While we are not back at "Pancake Breakfast-Level programming, we are thrilled to announce that we have started to plan for some spring programs. (Pssst . . . we don't know exactly what it will look like, but we're going to make Field Day happen. Get excited!!)
We wanted to honor our teachers and staff who have gone above and beyond for these students in the last year. Our Executive Board member, Jackie Kardesh, put together this display for our NBS Superheros, to remind them of all of the amazing things they have done for this community. As the banner says,
"Within them, they had powers beyond everyone's imagination. They were brave, patient, courageous, helpful, creative, strong and smart, . . . but the most incredible superpower they had within them was the power to EVOLVE."
We are going to continue to highlight our fantastic teachers and staff throughout the building each week. If you have anyone you think deserves special recognition, e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org! Who was your NBS hero this year?
Please join us for our next PTO Meeting on Wednesday, March 10th at 7:00 pm, via Zoom. The meeting ID and password will be e-mailed through Campus Messenger for security reasons. We hope to see all of your faces both virtually and in-person very soon.
Have a great week!

NBS Student Council February Report
This month has been very successful for the student council. The student council has just recently paired up with buddy classes and made empathetic Valentine’s for the senior citizens that are very much appreciated. This year we have decided to partner with the primary grades because they don’t have any student council representatives. This way we can transfer all of the information that we have discussed in the zoom to their classroom. So far we have shared news about Valentine’s Day cards that we made for senior citizens going through the pandemic in assisted living homes. They haven’t seen their loved ones in months, so we thought we could spread a smile over their face by making Valentine’s Day cards for them. We are proud to say that this went well. We had a big box full of cards and are positive this has made a difference.
Hi families, we are the 2020-2021’s student council representatives for fourth grade. So far this year we have done Valentine’s Day cards for the seniors. We got a huge overloaded box of Valentine’s cards. Thank you all for participating in this very special event! We are very happy about it and we hope you had a great time being creative and writing sweet things in those cards! We have also arranged buddy classes so we will be doing fun activities with kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade. Hope you will have lots of fun with us!! Hope you have a great rest of your day!!
So far in student council, we have buddied our classes to inform primary grades about Valentine’s Day cards for seniors. We tried to get cards from every class so seniors could have an amazing Valentine’s Day. In the end, we got cards from all of the classes and sent an overflowing box to the senior home. We tried to include everyone and even put a bin outside for the kids who stayed remote.
“GALLERY NIGHT” 2021 - A celebration of Spring! Hop on in!
Let’s celebrate Spring and the transcendent beauty, vibrant life, and new beginnings it brings through a celebration of ART!
Hop on into Virtual Gallery Night 2021
Coming to you via link available from April 21 through May 5!
Gallery Night is an all-school art show sponsored by the PTO, featuring the professionally-framed art of each student at NBS! This year Gallery Night will be coming to you Virtually - via a link to our show. We will sorely miss our chance to see each other, enjoy our childrens’ art in person, and laugh and talk in the Gallery Lounge (next year!) but there is a silver lining! You can enjoy the show over several days AND share the link with family and friends, who can purchase their own print of your child’s original piece if they choose! I know George is already excited ALL of his aunties will see his piece on display:) The Virtual Art Show ensures a secure approach to display our artists’ masterpieces!!
PHOTOS OF YOUR KIDS INCLUDED IN THE SHOW
As part of Virtual Gallery Night this year, the Show will include a gallery of PHOTOS OF OUR KIDS being artistic. Please send in UP TO THREE photos of your child doing ART! It does not have to be a pic of them doing art for school - ANY pic of them engaging in the artistic process! Upload via this google doc: https://forms.gle/QdwvsjUAJDpxMdJG6
FRAMED ORIGINAL AND PRINTS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE if you choose!
As in every other year, we have celebrated our students’ creativity and works of art via Gallery Night, every child will display a work of personal art they have created “in class” with our fabulous art teacher, Alexis Siddons (who drew our beautiful logo!!) Each original piece is professionally framed in a beautiful, double-matted frame (mine are hanging all around the house) - and the original framed artwork and framed prints ((hello Aunties!) are again available for purchase. This year Artome can ship your framed pieces directly to your home (or the home of the Auntie who bought a print) (for a shipping fee) OR ship for free to the school (where you can pick up!) You will be able to purchase your pieces ONLINE during the show. If you do not purchase, don’t worry! Your child’s artwork will come back to you via Mrs. Siddons:)
“[P]rojects that lead to an all-student school exhibit have tremendous benefits and can be a powerful experience for your students… [displayed art] is a great way to boost confidence and self-esteem.” @ theartofeducation.edu
Thank you for your continuing support of the Arts!!!!

NBS PTO Fundraising
No Stress Fundraising
Traditionally, we would be preparing for our biennial Adult Social, which is our biggest fundraising event of the year. We are postponing this event until the 2021-2022 school year. We have decided as a Board to open up a “No Stress” fundraiser where parents can contribute as much as they want directly to the PTO without purchasing any extra products or attending fundraising events. We will be in touch with all of the details!
Did you know that you can help support NBS by clicking a button and shopping normally? We have partnered with both Amazon Smile and Heinens to provide us with a small percentage of all of your purchases! Everything is automatic and there are no extra steps for you once you enroll. See below for more information on how to enroll.
Please direct all Fundraising questions and ideas to Amy Vandenbergh, at email@example.com. Thank you for your support!
