Volstead Act
Matthew Smith
The volstead act inacted prohibition. It enforced the 18th amendment. Also known as the NPA, national prohibition act. Finally passed after a long history of anti-alcohol sentiment and prohibition party lobbying. Ironically passed at the beginning of the great depression, when alcohol companies would have made a killing.
This is significant because it was passed near the beginning of the Great Depression, and time that alchohol businesses would have greatly profited. Was later repealed by the 21st amendment, the Blaine act, which made light beer legal for sale. Later, all alcohol would be made legal again.
