The Rideau Report
November 2021
Welcome to colder weather!
Bonjour les Rhinos!
We have a few updates worth mentioning at the beginning of this month.
Spirit Wear -> We have until November 7 to order our Rideau spirit wear. It is super easy, I have ordered mine already. I can't wait to sport my new toque! Just click on this link to make your selection and purchase your clothing on line www.rhinoswear.ca. All orders will be delivered to the school during the week of November 29.
Lost & Found -> Thankfully, a few items were picked up from our Lost & Found, but there are still many sweaters, jackets and splash pants abandoned on the tables (see pictures below). You may come and look (outside of school hours) if any of those clothes belong to your children. There is someone in the office at 8 am and until 4 pm.
Remembrance Day -> Each class will create a wreath that will be displayed in the front foyer. Grade 6 students will take pictures of the wreaths and collate them into a slide show. Mr. Davison will teach the kindergarten students the song O Beau Coquelicot and record them signing it. This will be added to the slide show. Homeroom teachers are responsible for reviewing the significance of Remembrance Day with their class. On November 11, teachers will present the slideshow to their classes. At 10:45, students will watch the live Remembrance Day Ceremony offered by either the City of Kingston or the National Ceremony by the Royal Canadian Legion (links below) and observe the minute of silence. The school will resume its regular routine after the ceremony.
Spirit Days -> We look forward to having our students participate in spirit days.
November 12 - Rideau Colours Day (Green and Yellow) or spirit wear
November 26 - Pajama Day
December 10 - Rideau Colours Day (Green and Yellow) or spirit wear
December 17 - Holiday Celebration Day (Festive shirt, green, red, blue, etc.)
Picture retakes -> They will be on November 17th.
Progress Reports -> They go home on November 19th.
Parent Council -> Rideau Spring Yard Sale: Doing some spring/fall/winter cleaning? Reading Marie Kondo and finding items that no longer bring you joy? Hold off on that donation drop-off and save items to donate to our spring yard sale fundraiser instead! Donations of clothes, toys, books, sports equipment, and small household items are welcome. Stay tuned for details in 2022.
Socktober -> The event was a success! We collected over 2100 pairs of socks! Thank you everyone for your donations.
Climate Survey -> You will soon receive information directly from the board regarding the school climate survey. It will be completed at school for students in grades 4 to 8.
Parents must continue to screen their children daily to ensure they are not experiencing any COVID symptoms. Here is the link to the government screening tool. Sick children should remain home. Children who develop COVID like symptoms during the day will be isolated until a parent can pick them up.
Don't forget to turn back the clocks this week end!
