Friday Focus

Moreau Heights Elementary

February 5

PBS Focus of the Week -

Our PBS focus for the week is on appropriate ways to get peer attention. Based on our data, many behaviors come from students working to get the attention of others. We want to help students develop strategies to interact with others in effective ways that don't interrupt learning for the student or others. We also want to build in time for them to interact appropriately into our instruction.

Please talk with your class about when are appropriate times to get peer attention in the classroom (carpet time, independent work time, stations, etc.) and how can students get the attention of a friend without interrupting learning. Creating a chart with students as a way to record their thoughts would be a great strategy to capture and display their thinking.

Collective Commitment of the Week

Staff will continue to grow professionally by keeping up with current best practices.

  • We will share ideas and information from professional training, journals and books with staff.

What is something new you have read or learned lately and shared with colleagues?

What professional reading are you doing? How do you keep yourself growing as a teacher? When we push ourselves to try new things, we model learning for our students!

*You will want to make sure you have communicated with your room parent about the Valentine's Party scheduled for Feb. 11th. We will allow parents to classrooms at 1:45, not before, to set up and get things going. We will announce the end of the party at 2:45. Thank you for making sure your room parents are aware of this information.

*Observations of peers are due by Feb. 11th. The form was shared with you on Google Drive and there are copies available by the mailboxes. This is a 10-15 minute observation of a colleague to see some of the great things happening in other classrooms. You were asked to keep a copy of the form for you, give a copy to the person you observed, and place a copy in my mailbox (for accountability only).

*Information about summer school has been distributed to staff and students. If you need additional information, please let me know.

*Summative evaluation work from probationary teachers is due by February 16th. If you have questions about either the Growth Plan reflection portion or the rankings with the 13 indicators, please let me know. I am happy to clarify things for you!

Rigor and Relevance

How are you stretching students with questions, to move their thinking into Quad D?

  • How could you teach that to others?
  • How would you do it differently?
  • Describe your reasoning?

Remember, we don't want our students to have to "earn their way out of Quadrant A." We want to provide rigorous learning opportunities for ALL students in a way that makes their learning relevant to them.

Happy School Counselor Week!
