The Most Powerful Tool
"If I could give you a tool or resource that would change your life in positive ways, change your results, create more happiness in your life, and help you get better at anything you desired . . . And if I could promise you that this tool would cost you nothing, require only yourself, and could be used at any time . . ." -Kevin Eikenberry

The tool is Reflection.
During the day I often feel that I've personally made dozens upon dozens of decisions. Speaking candidly, that's often what leaders do. Leaders make decisions based on the moment, the information and the need. But how often do we reflect on the decisions that were made?
Recently I sat down with my staff and I shared the new 3rd grade Reading Law. I had a Google Slide presentation with data, pictures, next steps and implications. Our meeting lasted 30 minutes and I walked out feeling like I was hit by a train.
These are often the times I find myself to be most reflective. I ask myself the question, what could I have done differently?
As you finish up the 2016-2017 school year I challenge you to reflect on the year. What initiatives worked? Why? What fell flat? Why? How effective was your communication throughout the year? with staff? with parents? with students? Are you proud of your school? What is something you wish would change?
These are all questions that promote reflection. Take time to reflect, I promise, you'll be a better leader because of it!
For additional thoughts on the power of reflection check out this post by Kevin Eickenberry.
