The 2016-2017 Mars Hill Lady Panther basketball team reached the Sub-Region portion of the State Playoffs before losing at Red Bay 60-36. The Lady Panthers, led by Seniors Lucy Burch and Katie Clark, finished the year at 17-12. It was the 24th consecutive season for the girls basketball program to have at least 17 wins.
The Lady Panthers won the Tharptown Christmas Tournament by winning 3 games including the Championship game over Carbon Hill who had a 12-1 record entering the game. The Lady Panthers finished in second place in the regular season Area play with a 4-2 record. Mars Hill defeated Hatton to reach the Area Tournament finals. It was the 6th consecutive season for a Lady Panther team to reach the Area Championship Game.
Neely Johns set a new freshman scoring record with 471 points this season. The team had the program’s 5th best season hitting 3 pointers (136).
Thanks to head coach Jay Mitchell and assistant coach Stacey Thigpen for their hard work and dedication to the program.

Our Mars Hill AR program now has tests on 13 of Kyle Butt’s books written especially for children. Check the Mars Hill Bookstore or your child’s library at MHBS for these titles: Am I Ready to be Baptized?, Amazing Copies of God’s Design, Amazing Dinosaurs Designed by God, Dinosaurs Unleashed, God Made Plants, God Made Sea Creatures, God Made the World, God Made You, How Do You Know God is Real?, How Do You Know the Bible is from God?, I’m a Christian. What’s Next?, A Man Who Loved Money, and A Patient Man from Uz.
Also, there are tests on books of the Bible, except for Psalms, Proverbs, and Song of Solomon. We recommend that students wait until middle school to attempt these tests because they are more difficult.

Thus says the Lord, "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord." Jeremiah 9:23-24 (ESV)
