Music is for Everyone
The music group will be meeting every Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 starting this coming Tuesday, January 30. It will continue through the spring semester except for the spring break. It is a drop in class, which means that every week, we will tailor the focus to whoever is present. It is helpful to RSVP before the class.
I will also be making private lessons available to all students. Please contact me to schedule you in. We have an assortment of instruments to choose from. There are truly endless possibilities when it comes to music.
There are 3 things I want to emphasize.
1) The Music group and private lessons are open to everyone regardless of perceived musical experience. The philosophy that drives all my teaching is that music is intrinsically tied into our very being. While one person might possess certain skills steeped in traditional western music theory, another person might be so dedicated to the groove, that everyone feels propelled to dance, while another person might have so much enthusiasm and openness that everyone wants to play music with them. Music skills and life skills are one and the same when you enter the comMUSIKey music studio. Our aim here is to explore our innate musical interconnectedness.
2) Many people are afraid to make music. I have many thoughts on this subject, but the main things I want you to know are that a) you are not alone and b) You can free yourself from this fear.
3) Part of the goal of studying music is to inspire others to tap into their own unique personal musicality. We need more people playing music in this world. Prescott College is the perfect place to spread the music. Please help me.
Every 3rd Wednesday, I will hosting a Music for Everybody Playshop open to the community. The next one will be February 21 from 6 to 7:30 pm. It will probably be in the Sam Hill building which is where I will be moving to as well.
And one last thing. I’ve got two sweaters that were left here during the fall semester. They are both very nice. Let me know if you are missing one or two.
