General Updates
October 24th will be the last day of this grading period. Be sure to make up any missing assignments before 9 weeks report cards come out. Look at your grades and see where you can improve for 2nd 9 weeks before semester grades become official on your transcripts. Your GPA can be very important to life after high school. Use your resources-talk to your teachers, counselors and other faculty to see how you can improve if you aren't where you want to be academically.
11th & 12th grade: If you are interested in joining the military, please sign up to take the ASVAB! The ASVAB is an entrance exam for the military that we will be offering free at CCHS Tuesday, November 5th from about 8-12. Sign up in the link or come by Ms. Creighton's office in the counseling suite (clipboard outside her door). https://forms.gle/JmnAbVWaqo973vQr5 . You will need to sign up by October 29th.

Senior Update
Financial Aid night, Monday, October 21st at 5:30 in the CCHS auditorium. Come learn more about what financial aid may look like as you apply to colleges!
College Application Week-First week of November. Many colleges waive their application fee that week. Our career coach will be coming to Clay-Chalkville Thursday, November 7th to help students with their applications. More details to come on how to be a part of this!
ASVAB (military interest exam) will be offered November 5th at CCHS from 8-12. Sign up at Ms. Creighton's door in the counseling suite or on the google form: https://forms.gle/JmnAbVWaqo973vQr5 .
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opened October 1st. Apply to see what kind of financial aid you are eligible for. The earlier you apply, the better. You do not have to use all the money you are eligible for, so you have nothing to lose!
Still not sure what you want to do when you graduate? We have a great resource for our students to explore post-secondary options. Alabama Career Planning System uses Kuder, which has interest/skills assessments, and allows you to explore all types of occupations and majors. It will go into detail of how much school you need to complete for certain occupations, the demand of the job, and salary ranges.

Junior Update
The mock ACT will be Wednesday, December 4th for the junior class at CCHS. We are giving this opportunity for students to see their scores and see what areas they can improve before the true ACT in the spring (also given during school day). The faculty is already incorporating ACT practice in the classroom, and will continue to do so throughout the year.

Sophomore Update
Hopefully you feel more adjusted to high school life by now. Be sure to check in with your grades and the choices you are making to be the best you can be. 10th grade is a good time to explore how you can get more involved with the school whether its clubs, sports, or just being a positive example to your peers.

Below is a checklist for all grades to prepare for life after high school. It comes quicker than you think, so choose to do things now that will have a positive impact on your future!
Freshmen Update
We look forward to coming into your classrooms and discussing the importance of your grade point average (GPA) in the upcoming weeks! This is a great time to set goals, and evaluate study habits that are or are not working for you. Talk to your teachers, counselors and other school staff about how you can bring your grades up and set a good foundation for your GPA.
Please come meet your counselor if you have not! We want to meet you and be a help to you as much as possible!
