IMPORTANT TRANSPORTATION UPDATE FOR 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR
Bus stop request deadline for the new school year 2023-2024:
Traditional school is August 7, 2023
Bus transportation will only roll over any students in the school year 2022-2023 with a "yes" in PowerSchool to the new school year 2023-2024.
Any new students that DM enroll after August 7 will not get a bus stop request even if they request for one. Data Manager can enter the information in PS but bus transportation will not look at it until they are ready.
No new bus requests will be processed the first two weeks of school
3-5 days to process through October 15
1-3 days to process after October 15
EC stop requests may take up to 5 days
McKinney Vento students may be assigned a shuttle transfer
De-Assignment: students must ride 3 times per week to remain eligible for transportation (NOT 3 days in a row) exceptions include illness, sports, clubs, etc. that are reported to the bus driver.
Process towards permanent De-Assignment:
1. First verbal warning by bus driver and documented by transportation (less than 3 days in 1 week)
2. Second verbal warning by bus driver and document by transportation (less than 3 days a 2nd week) "weeks are not consecutive"
3. Added to de-assignment form by bus driver
4. Transportation sends de-assignment form to school and school notify parents
5. If parents don't contest de-assignment within 3 days, school de-assign in PS
6. School officials may not place students on the bus at dismissal once a student is de-assigned
7. A student who is de-assigned during the first trimester can be re-assigned to a bus route during the second trimester, but must request stop though PS
If you have any questions regarding this new procedure/process, please contact the NHCS Transportation Department directly at 910-254-4154. Thanks!
Digital Device Survey
Dear Williston Families,
The district is asking that you complete this technology survey. The purpose of this survey is to fulfill session law "Β§ 115C-102.9 calling for the collection and reporting of data regarding all students' access to digital devices and Internet access at home. This information will be used to help target areas of need and ensure that all NC students have adequate access to devices and the Internet to access learning. Note that the information gathered will be kept private and confidential.
Digital Device Survey is NOW LIVE in PowerSchool!
In order to fulfill NC Legislature session law "Β§ 115C-102.9 calling for the collection and reporting of data regarding all student access to digital devices and Internet access at home, NCDPI has added the Digital Device Survey to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The quick reference document (QRD) for the survey in the parent portal can be found below under Resources. If you choose another method to collect this data, and for those parents/guardians who may not have an Internet connection, a copy of the questions in pdf format can also be found below under Resources.
For those parents/guardians who use this Parent Portal Survey, the data will be imported automatically into your PSU DLMI.
For those parents/guardians who do not have an Internet connection and answer the survey on paper, the school can answer the questions for the student under the NC Information, Digital Device Survey.

Say Something!
New Hanover County Schools is partnered with the Say Something Anonymous Reporting program to provide our students with a safe, responsive way to seek help for themselves and others.
Say Something is a youth violence prevention program from Sandy Hook Promise β a national violence prevention organization. Say Something Anonymous Reporting System allows youth and adults to submit secure & anonymous safety concerns to help identify and intervene upon at-risk individuals BEFORE they hurt themselves or others. The system enables school administrators and law enforcement to create effective interventions and to help prevent violence, suicide, bullying, self-harm and other forms of threatening behavior.
With the Anonymous Reporting System, itβs easy and completely confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.
Last week, Williston students will receive the student training on the program. This consists of a 25 minute video produced by Say Something. If your child has a personal connection to a school violence experience or horrific event and you would like to discuss this with a school counselor before the video is shown, please reach out to their grade level counselor.
