What is Genius Hour and how does it fit into the curriculum?

Genius hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn for one hour a week during school (

When students choose a project to learn about, they spend several weeks researching, exploring, and sharing with not only their classmates, but with the rest of the world. Teachers are monitoring and facilitating throughout the whole process.

This approach to learning is built around student curiosity and self-directed learning. The students are in control. They choose what to study and how to study it. Genius Hour promotes inquiry, research, creativity, and self-directed learning, all things students will need as they make their way into and through the “real world”.
