October News
Bath Public School - October 2022

Dear Bath families,
We have had a busy start to October with the many Bath community activities happening, bringing our students together in spirit and sport. We came together for our first colour house assembly, created colour banners, started Kindergarten helpers and reading buddies as well as started a new Rock band club with Mr Morris! We also welcomed Mr Roy, our new Primary French Teacher. We have so much to be thankful for at our school.
Last week we had Photo Visions in to complete our student photos! Classroom group photos will be taken on picture retake day November 9th. After a few years without group photos, we are looking forward to having these photos for our memory books, as we are sure families are too. Thanks for your patience.
We are super proud of our 33 cross country runners and coach Hay for braving the rain and wind at the Fort Henry Regional Race on Oct 13. This was a 'first' for many of our students and we were so impressed with the determination and teamwork from our runners! We will be sending 23 of our runners to the District Championships on Thursday Oct. 20th Way to go, Bath Knights!
Last week was Fire Safety week, which meant that the Loyalist Fire and Rescue visited schools in our area to help with our fire drills. On Wednesday, they came to Bath PS to see how well we can do our drills and provide feedback. They were impressed with how we exited the building in a safe and orderly manner!
Halloween is fast approaching! As some families may be heading out over the next few weeks to select costumes for Halloween, we wanted to offer these questions to help guide your child/children in their choices. Certainly, these questions would also be guiding principles for any "spirit day" that would involve costumes throughout the year. It is essential within our scope of providing a safe and welcoming place for all students to learn that we are mindful in all areas of our programming.
- Is my costume depicting and perpetuating a stereotype or stigma associated with a particular race, culture or religion?
- Does my costume include a replication of a garment that is a significant component of a particular religion or culture of which I do not identify with?
- Is my costume depicting a historical time-period where that look/costume is now considered offensive and discriminatory?
- Does my costume represent elements of a culture or cultural practice that is being commoditized for consumption?
- Can I look in the mirror and confidently say that my costume choice would not be considered offensive to a particular race, ethnic origin, gender or religion?
Thank you for supporting these conversations at home. More information regarding an October spirit day will be sent home in a separate communication.
Yours in Education,
Jennifer Osborne, Principal

SOCKTOBER
Again this year our Bath Knights are helping to collect pairs of new socks so that those in need in our Napanee and Area Community can have access to them. Socks are one of the most requested items at shelters in our area. Over the month of October we are asking students and families who are able to donate a new pair of socks and help us collectively create a thoughtful and amazing donation of cozy socks. Thank you for supporting the SOCKTOBER initiative. People will have warm toes and we will have happy hearts. It's a win win. Our school spirit Fridays will be sock related. Check our https://twitter.com/BathPS_LDSB for more info.
