- Due to the current circumstances, H&S is not soliciting the usual annual $25 in dues per student. However, H&S will continue to incur some expenses related to items such as yearbook, 6th grade promotion, Unami t-shirts for 6th grade students, and more, so we will gladly accept and appreciate any donations. If you would like to make a donation to H&S, please make the check out to "Mill Creek Home & School" and send in to the main office at Mill Creek. Thank you!
Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
As we conclude February and head in to March, Spring conferences are on the horizon. They will be held for all grades (K-6) on March 25 and 26 with additional Kindergarten slots on March 29 and 30. Please be on the lookout of sign up communication, which will go out late next week. And, yes, this does mean that spring, regardless of what that famous Pennsylvania groundhog predicted, is, at least on the calendar, getting very close.
We look forward to spring, our spring conferences, and... can you believe it?... entering our 3rd Trimester after March 12.
Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
Outside of our chaotic Monday early dismissal (but that's Winter 2020-2021 for you!), it was a pretty quiet week at The Creek. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. When things are quieter, you tend to take notice of incredible learning and instruction you might otherwise take for granted. A quiet week allowed me to have greater appreciation for classroom lessons and the amazing things students are learning. Some of them are featured in our "Around the Creek" article at the top of the newsletter. Three items stood out for me as I observed classrooms this week...
- Our students are learning some truly amazing and challenging information and skills.
- Our students are rising to the learning challenges with which they are presented and are truly excited to learn.
- Our teachers/staff love offering up new learning challenges to their students, and, even more so, they love it when their students show their understanding through hard work.
The above happens all the time at Mill Creek. A quiet week just allowed me to see these classroom happenings with much more clarity than during most weeks. Even during busier weeks (which are great in their own right), I do hope I never take for granted the amazing things that happen in Mill Creek classrooms every day.
Have a wonderful weekend, Mill Creek!

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Yarmolyk, 5th Grade
Ms. Yarmolyk's 5th Grade virtual class has been very busy this lately! During their recent weather unit, they have been studying air pressure. A couple of weeks ago they did some experiments to show that air has pressure. Ms. Yarmolyk had her students collect materials prior to the lesson, and they then completed the experiment along with her.
Another class activity involved literature circles for the novel Toliver’s Secret. Her class finished reading the book and were split into breakout rooms, where Ms. Yarmolyk provided them with prompts to guide their literature circle discussions. Included in this was a discussion about respectfully disagreeing with and piggybacking off one another - two very important skills!.
