Chavez Lobo Letter

for the week of May 9 --May 13, 2016

Definition-Common Sense is a noun, Good sense and sound judgment in practical matters.

"The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are: Hard work, Stick-to-itiveness, and Common sense."

Thomas A. Edison

Our 3rd , 4th and 5th graders will be taking STAAR tests this week. This is a big week so please make sure your students get a good nights rest the night before and a good breakfast the day of testing. We realize Sunday is Mother's Day so that is a special challenge for students to be focused the next day for testing. (Yes, we wondered too.)

Just make sure they get plenty of rest.

Students have four hours each day to complete their tests which is plenty of time. Encourage your child to take their time and not hurry.

Every teacher will telling you that rushing through the test results in the most mistakes.

TEACHER OF THE WEEK--Ronni Hardin Third Grade Teacher

Hi! My name is Ms. Hardin and I teach 3rd grade! This year is my 12th year teaching. It is my second year at Chavez Elementary and I'm proud to be a Chavista! I have worked in Little Elm for 10 years and love being a Lobo.

I have a Master's Degree in Education from Texas Tech University. I am a proud Alumni and love to watch Red Raider Football in the fall. I also make a few trips a year to Lubbock to visit my best friend and catch a football game.

I was born in Indiana and lived there for 7 years. When I was in first grade my family moved to Pennsylvania for my dad's work. 5 years later we moved to Cedar Hill, Texas. I'm so glad our family ended up in Texas and I'm very proud to call Texas home! I graduated high school from Cedar Hill in 1998. In high school I played soccer and ran cross country. I still enjoy both sports. I play co-ed soccer with friends and run the occasional fun run with friends. I also like to spend my free time camping and kayaking.

I am a mom to 8 year old twins; a boy named Brayden and a girl named Riley. They will be in Kindergarten at Chavez next year.

Teacher Appreciation Week Overflows!

Chavez PTA and parents honored Chavez teachers with an amazing week of recognition. A Dr. Seuss theme was very creative and transformed the office area. Each day provided special treats, surprises and meals. On Friday, our PTA sold roses for $1 for students to treat their teachers. I believe they sold 30 dozen in about 30 minutes! We have the greatest parent community around. Thank you PTA and parents who sent many special treats to their teachers throughout the week. It was alot fun and you made our teachers feel quite special.

Percussion Performance

The Percussion Group performed this past Tuesday to a packed house in the music room. The Percussion Group has practiced all year long on Friday after school so this is a committed group. 22 students make up this talented group led by our amazing Mr. Duc. Over 30 parents attended to enjoy and appreciate the fruits of that hard work. Great job percussion group.
