Friday the 13th today!

Well, for those of you who fear Friday the 13th, no worries as this is our only one in 2022! Fun fact: scared or nervous of Friday the 13ths? This is called "friggatriskaidekaphobia." The term comes from Frigga, the name of the Norse god that Friday is named after, and "triskaidekaphobia" is fear of the number 13. Now if you are ever on Jeopardy, you will know this trivia - or just to amaze your family and friends! It is estimated that 5-10% of Americans have this phobia!

6th Graders Begin Junior High Visits!

You know the year is coming to a close, when our 6th graders begin to visit the Junior Highs and prepare for the next step in their educational journey. Many of our 6th graders visited Shelby Junior high today, and those attending Malow Jr. High will visit next week. Later in the month the students will submit their requests for electives and finalize their school schedules for the fall semester! Exciting times for our oldest students!

Beck Walking Track - Healthy Body, Healthy Mind!

Our Beck students have been walking miles and miles this spring! All students, Young 5's - 6th grade take time to use the Beck Walking Track as part of our "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind" spring initiative. The walking track runs from our south door (near the dumpster wall), down the 'catwalk' along the playground, to the curve, and then back. One lap is about 1/4 mile. It takes four laps to equal 1 mile. All of our students log their laps with our EZ-Scanner and their own QR code badges on special lanyards.

Each Monday in the cafeteria, the students who log in 2 miles or more (8 laps) get a colorful toe-token to add to their lanyard. Some students are almost up to 20 miles! The 20-milers will receive a special Walking Club 'dog tag' to add to their lanyard.

Class totals have been a big hit this spring, too, and the competition is heating up! So far one class (Mr. Barthelmeh's 5th grade) has logged more than 303 miles total! Other classes are not far behind! All classes who hit 500 miles before June 8, will get a special prize!

It takes about 7-10 days to clear those, so please make sure you are filling those out and getting them turned in ASAP!

Volunteers will meet in the front lobby for a brief meeting and head out to their stations. You will then stay at that station as classes rotate to you. Once the final whistle blows, you are free to leave.

Background Check for School Volunteers!

In order to allow parents into Utica School buildings, parents must have a background check. Attached is a copy, that you can print off, fill out and send back in, - or - call our office and let our staff know to send one home with your child. Once returned, it takes about 7-10 days to be completed. So if you would like to come help out on Field Day (June 2), please get this filled out and turned in ASAP!

Morning Drop Offs

Please remember to pull your car all the way forward when dropping students off in the morning. Cars should NOT STOP along the south sidewalk. Cars that stop along the sidewalk at the south driveway are causing a hazard to cars driving into the parking lot and turning in off Hayes Road.

Students should ONLY get out of cars along the front sidewalk area. Just like at pick up, pull as far forward as the car in front of you, unload your passengers, then pull into passing lane to continue on.

Students should be able to walk to their classroom doors from wherever they're droppd off - especially now that weather is getting nicer.
