From the Principal
Saturday marks the first day of Ramadan. We want to wish Ramadan Mubarak to those who will be participating! Ramadan is a month long observance and is a time of joy, spending time with family and giving to those in need.
Next week also marks National Library Week and Paraprofessional Appreciation. We will be honoring our library staff and classified staff who are integral in student support and operations. If your child works with a particular para or you would like to show support to our library staff feel free to send in a note of appreciation next week.
Annual enrollment is due this Friday. We are happy to help if you need it. We have computers you can use and can provide assistance. Give us a call or stop by. Students who are not enrolled will not be placed in a class for next school year.
Lastly, we will start our state assessments next week in 3rd-5th grades. Please refer to the schedule below so you know when your child's class is testing. Please make sure they are on time to school with a good night's sleep. If a student comes after testing begins they cannot enter the testing session and will have to wait in another location until the class is done. They will make up their test at another time.
As always it is an honor to serve as the Principal of Sunflower Elementary.

Board Positions
Over the last few months we have communicated board openings for the Vice President and Secretary positions. We have had two candidates come forward and we would like to introduce them to the Sunflower Community. There will be a vote to fill the two positions at our May PTO meeting.
Colleen Bloom for Vice President
Hello Sunflower! My name is Colleen Bloom. My son Beau is in Mr. Mockrys third grade classroom. I have been the Lead Infant Teacher at Stepping Stones daycare for the past 20 years. I am super interested in being the new PTO Vice President because this wonderful community has supported my family and advocated for my son for the last several years and I want to give back where I am able. I love being involved with fundraising, planning events, meeting and talking to other families, and juggling a lot of balls in the air is the name of the game when you take care of babies for a living! I hope to get to know more families and make this next year at Sunflower an amazing one!
Anjali Kansal-Rill for Secretary
My name is Anjali Kansal-Rill and my daughter is a kindergartener at Sunflower. My friends would tell you that I'm very organized so I think I would be a good fit for the secretary position. I love to be involved with my daughter's school and activities and think the PTO would give me the opportunity to do that while also helping the school and scholars of Sunflower.
Volunteer Positions
*We have a Committee Chair position open for the Scholastic Book Fair. Tara Fagan has successfully overseen the Book Fair for many years but will be stepping away next year. If you LOVE the book fair and are interested in heading up this committee, please email sunflowerelementarypto@gmail.com and we can discuss the position.
*We are also looking for Library Volunteers for the 2022-2023 school year. Please contact us if interested.
Our next PTO meeting will be a virtual WebEx meeting on Tuesday April 5th, 7pm. Please see the Facebook event page for details.
**Follow our Sunflower PTO Facebook page. We post a lot of information and events on our page.
