School Construction Updates
Dear LOSD Families,
We are excited for the start of an amazing year in LOSD, and we have much to celebrate. As we gear up to start the 2019-2020 school year, I would like to thank our community for investing in the improvement of our schools through the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation, the Learning Levy, and the capital construction bond, each of which enable us to enhance teaching, support for students, and school facilities across our district. The bond work is improving each school in some way, from seismic improvements to safety features to large scale construction.
All of our staff members are busy preparing for the beginning of the school year. Our bond and construction teams are working especially hard, around the clock, to be sure our schools are ready to open. I am providing you here with an update about a few of our construction projects.
River Grove: The modular (Innovation Lab) is planned to be complete in late September, covered play is receiving structural upgrades and will not be available until the second week in September. The new vestibule is receiving finishing touches and should be complete within the first two weeks of September.
Lake Oswego Junior High: The work in the gym will continue into late fall, this will take up some of the back parking lot for materials. Technology upgrades continue throughout the building, there will be some configuration occuring after the start of school. The new vestibule is receiving finishing touches and should be complete within the first two weeks of September.
High Schools: Secure vestibules are nearly complete and the second set of doors will be installed within the first two weeks of September.
Westridge: Finishes will continue during off hours, as well as roof work and exterior classroom doors being replaced. Phase two brick replacement will occuring during summer 2020.
Many of the finishing touches in schools are in the areas of secure vestibules and security functionality, which are very important to us, as the safety of our students is our number one priority.
We are planning for all schools to open on time. Thank you for your patience during this exciting improvement work. We look forward to seeing our students and families in our schools on their first day of school.
Lora de la Cruz, Ed. D.
First Day of School with the Raptor Visitor Management System
We are excited to welcome everyone back to school. As a reminder, with safety being our top priority, schools will ultimately be utilizing the Raptor Visitor Management system. As previously announced, this system will enhance school safety by screening and registering visitors to our schools during the school day. On the first day of school, staff will greet students and parents when entering the building. The Raptor Visitor Management system may be functional in your school that day, which may increase the time needed to access the building, especially for parents that have not pre-registered in the Raptor system. Please bring your driver’s license or passport with you.
Thank you in advance for having patience with us the first week of school as we operationalize our new security procedures and systems. Most importantly, we can’t wait to see each and everyone one of you soon!
