Reading Is the Ticket to Silverwood FUN!
Reading Is the Ticket is a recreational reading program designed to encourage K-8 students to read for fun. Studies show that after children learn how to read, the actual time they spend reading declines steadily in successive grades. Furthermore, as technology provides more and more distractions, it has become even harder to get young people to just sit down and enjoy reading a good book.
The Silverwood Reading Is the Ticket program provides a wonderful incentive of a ticket to the Silverwood Theme Park to get our students excited about reading. Getting kids to read for fun, not just for school assignments is an all-important literacy goal. The Reading Is the Ticket program is meant to motivate students to read and to establish a lifelong love of reading.
Our Reading Is the Ticket program will began Friday, February 3rd. A parent information letter and student tally sheet was sent home with all of the details. Please be sure to read everything carefully to ensure you understand the specifics of the program. Most importantly, your child’s completed tally sheets must be signed by a parent and turned into his/her classroom teacher no later than Friday, March 17.
If you have any questions about Reading Is the Ticket, please contact your child’s classroom teacher or our Reading Is the Ticket coordinator, Mrs. Burtsfield at 751-4071.
