The Great Kindness Challenge
Brookside will join thousands of schools across the country to create a culture of kindness. Students will be part of a powerful and positive bullying prevention initiative that will lead to more kindness, unity, and respect at school and beyond.
All students are invited to participate by challenging themselves to complete a Checklist of Kindness. Click here for the K-1 checklist. The grades 2-5 checklist is here.
Students are encouraged to dress up for our Kindness Spirit Days. See the lineup here.
WWRSD has Heart
The Westwood Regional School District is so excited to share the images of the winning works of art for the WWRSD has heART exhibit. WWRSD has heART is an annual charity event that uses students’ artistic talents and creativity to help others in need. Prints and notecards of the winning images are being sold for charity and will be displayed at a reception at the Westwood Gallery in downtown Westwood on Friday, February 6.
Click here for the order form and a poster of all the artwork. Orders placed by January 31, will be ready for pick up at the Westwood Gallery Reception; all other orders will be delivered around February 13.
Life is Better with Clean Hands
The CDC launched its Life is Better with Clean Hands campaign to motivate everyone to make clean hands part of their daily lives.
Handwashing is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs. It’s quick and simple, and it’s a win for everyone, except the germs.
Handwashing is especially important during these key times when you are likely to get and spread germs:
- Before, during, and after preparing food
- Before eating food
- Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting or diarrhea
- Before and after treating a cut or wound
- After using the toilet
- After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
- After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
- After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
- After handling pet food or pet treats
- After touching garbage
To be sure your hands are really clean, follow these five steps every time:
1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Don’t forget the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
3. Scrub at least 20 seconds. Hum the “Happy Birthday” song twice, from beginning to end.
4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
YouthTruth Survey!
Westwood Regional School District has partnered with the national nonprofit, YouthTruth, to help us hear feedback from our parents, staff, and students about what we are doing well, and how we can improve.
From January 21 to January 31, 2020, the YouthTruth Family survey will be open and we want to hear from you! The survey takes about 15 minutes and your anonymous response will be combined with responses from other parents/guardians throughout the district.
