The Spencer Scoop
Spencer Elementary - May15, 2020
Hello Spencer Families,
Let me start with; we miss all of you terribly. We hope you and your family are doing well and developed a routine with online learning.
Just a reminder, please be aware of what is in the background of your Google Meet session. Also, please make sure your child is dressed and ready for connecting with their class. One mention of the word underwear will take twenty minutes to get the class under control and a captured time of connecting is lost.
Keep this in mind; it takes around six weeks to develop a routine for the kids on a regular year in the traditional setting. This is why conferences are about six weeks from the start of the year. We don't have as many visitors to help in the classrooms at the beginning of the year as well; it gives the students time to adjust to their new surroundings and learn the flow of the class.
The warmer weather is coming, and that will bring more challenges of how to keep your child engaged. Stick with the routine you've already established, and perhaps you need to take a few more breaks. Yes, the principal told you to take more breaks.
I do this throughout the day as I take Buckley out for a walk. When I do, it brings me back to the center as I breathe in the deep air and enjoy nature. It helps me realign my thinking, and when I come back, I'm refreshed. Here's another hint; we take movement breaks in the classroom for this same reason. We go outside for this exact purpose. It's healthy, and we're better for it when we return.
Keep up with those routines, stay connected with us, and know when we get back, it's going to be one AMAZING homecoming!
Let us know how we can help you,
B. Renner

Message from Spencer PTO
***PTO Bottle Drive****
Please consider saving your returnables to support the Spencer PTO in a bottle drive. You probably have a huge pile of returnables collecting dust in your garage. Let's make up some of the lost income from auction by teaming together to turn our bottles and cans into dollars for Spencer! When bottle returns are open again and it's safe to do so, we can assemble a team of volunteers to return the cans. We'll post more details when we know more. In the meantime, keep saving those returnables! Thank you!
Google Meet
BAS is now online! This plan may include live online learning sessions with students. For privacy and confidentiality related to FERPA, no online learning sessions may be recorded by staff, parents, or students. Thank you, in advance, for your help making online learning classrooms safe spaces for students.

Student Information Sheet
Parents please note that we have Student Information Forms available on our Maltby Counseling page. This year it is an online form. This form gives parents the option of communicating anything they feel should be taken into consideration as we begin compiling next year’s schedule for students. It should be noted that this is not a teacher request form and is completely optional. If you opt to fill out the form please do so by May 18th- again this is an optional form and not necessary for scheduling.
Goals for Online Learning
● All students have a predictable space to connect with teachers/class to meet their individual
and social-emotional needs.
● All students have opportunities for continued learning that focuses on Essential Learnings and minimizes instructional loss.
● Students and families are given predictable routines and structures to ensure they stay
connected to schools and learning.
