The Falcon Flyer
Weekly News and Updates - Volume 3 Issue 13 - 11/18/2022
Thank You Falcons
Thank you Falcons for pouring your hearts into each day here at Fletcher Elementary. We are so proud of everything that's been accomplished in the first part of this year, and looking forward to all that's to come. Next week we are off for Thanksgiving Break. School will resume on November 28th with our regular schedule. From there it'll be three quick weeks until we're back on break for the remainder of December.
This week our students, families, and teachers participated in conferences to collaborate on next best steps for each of our amazing kiddos. A few teachers tried something new this year, student led conferences. This novel approach put students in the driver's seat and showed families their abilities to solve grade-level problems at different stations around the room prior to sitting down with the teacher to review the first trimester report cards. Shout-out to Mrs. Yamashita, Mrs. Quaal, and Mrs. Sperry for blazing the trail this round.
Our Amazing PTA held their first meeting in a very long time this past week as well. Led by Jen Boucek, Ashleigh Ledoux, and Sarah Valeron, the team reviewed budgetary items, heard spending proposals from Principal Friedenberg, and brainstormed fundraising opportunities and future events. One super easy way to support our PTA is by linking your Amazon account with something called Amazon Smile. This program directs a portion of each purchase toward our PTA. See more information below.
Wishing all of our families a restful and and fulfilling break.

Then check the box that you understand that you must always start at https://smile.amazon.com to support Fletcher Elementary PTA. Doing so will allow a portion of your purchase to be contributed as a donation to Fletcher Elementary PTA. SDUSD Vision for 2030
In the spirit of co-construction, the beginning work of Vision for 2030 has been led by San Diego Unified students- to learn more about this endeavor please watch this two minute student constructed (Video). As we seek to continue to co-construct our vision, we need your leadership, your voice, and your help. The Fletcher Team will be participating in a World Cafe workshop to engage in conversations about learner, educator, and systems profiles necessary for defining our vision. The workshop will be from 5:30-7:00 PM on December 14th via zoom. Check out the District's website dedicated to this initiative for more information: https://www.sandiegounified.org/about/vision_2030
World of Jazz Experience
On Wednesday, our students and staff were treated to a performance by the Danny Green Trio who brought their World of Jazz experience to Fletcher Elementary. Students learned about melody, harmony, rhythm, and improvisation through performances across the range of jazz from blues, to samba, to bebop. Take a look below at this video of students learning the jazz call-and-response technique to melody.

Sign Up for Weekly COVID Testing on Campus
Weekly voluntary COVID screenings resumed this week and will continue to take place weekly on Monday mornings. The more students we have signed up for the screenings, the sooner we can identify symptomatic and asymptomatic cases to reduce community spread.
