First Graders Came to Visit!
The first graders came to visit us and read their persuasive writing pieces about how first grade is the best grade! The kids were so excited to hear about the fun that they will get to participate in next year. They had a lot of great questions for the first graders too.
Math
This week in Math we focused on word problems with addition and subtraction. We also continued practicing different ways to make a number using number pairs.

Reading
In Reading, we practiced our comprehension strategies with the story Piggie Pie. We started by making inferences on what Gritch meant when she told the wolf to come home with her for lunch. The students needed to pay close attention to the pictures in the story as clues for their inference. Next, the students retold the story. After retelling the story, we looked at the character traits (inside and outside) of Gritch. We also stopped to visualize certain phrases in the text that were repeated and emphasized. For example, "Gritch stomped her feet." and "She pulled her hair." It was great to see the students take their time with the details to make the pictures look real. Today, we focused on our favorite parts of the story.
Phonics
We have continued our small group work in phonics this week! We have also been focusing on consonant blends at the beginning of words (fl, bl, cl, dr, br, cr, etc.). The kids have been doing very well blending the two sounds and using that to chunk and read words. Please continue practicing blends at home with your child.
6th Grade Learning Buddies
This week with buddies we talked about things we like to do on rainy days! Check out our projects!
