NEWS THIS WEEK IN THE WORLD OF CAREER & COLLEGE READINESS
POSITIVITY PROJECT: WEEK 7 FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness is the ability to move past being injured, and allow yourself to reconcile with the person who hurt you. Forgiveness can often be seen as a selfless act, but it also carries many benefits for those who practice it. Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them. Forgiveness is often rooted in the idea that all people are valuable and worthy of a second chance. Many who forgive have the ability to consider things from another’s perspective.
Watch the video below for an excellent example of how tragedy and forgiveness have created an unbreakable bond between two friends. *disclaimer- break out the tissues!

Athletes: Top 10 Tips for College Visits
- Know the difference between an official and unofficial visit. On an official visit, the university will plan, schedule, and pay for the trip. On an unofficial, you will plan, schedule, and pay for the trip. Most athletes go on unofficial visits; not everyone has the opportunity for officials.
- Try to schedule your visit on a day when there's a home event.
- ALWAYS contact the coach and let them know when you'll be on campus.
- Have a list of questions prepared for the coach and school staff. My clients get a full list of questions to choose from and a list of questions to expect from coaches and school staff. My clients say this guidance is extremely helpful.
- While you're on campus, jot down notes on your phone app or use voice notes. You'll want to remember what you were thinking and feeling while you were there.
- The athlete should do most of the talking while you're with the coaches and team. Parents should be friendly and interested. You can be a part of the conversation without dominating it.
- ALWAYS follow up with a thank you email or handwritten note.
- Communicate how interested you are in the program after the visit.
- Ask yourself, "can I see myself at this school without my sport?" If so, that's a good sign you have a good fit.
SVSU CAMPUS VISIT OPPORTUNITY
We would like to extend a special invitation to students for our upcoming Fall Open House!
This event is on Saturday, October 22nd starting at 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
At SVSU's Fall Open House students will get the best look at what SVSU is all about. It's a true open house format so arrive anytime and leave once all of your questions are answered.
- You'll see our facilities, learn about our academic programs, and meet the students, faculty, and staff who make SVSU a unique place.
- Speak with as many professors as you want from various majors.
- Go on a full-walking campus tour or just see our housing facilities.
- Speak with representatives about student life and support services and anything else you've ever wanted to explore on a university campus like study abroad, honors, athletics, and more!
- Attend an admissions or financial aid presentation.
