Note from the Principal
Greetings Buena Vista Parents,
Hope you are all doing well. It's been a busy week and there has been a lot of learning and growing going on at Buena Vista.
I have been speaking with teachers since the start of the year on what great students we have at Buena Vista. I have been in classrooms and on the playground watching all of the hard work and kind actions of our students. It had me thinking about the importance of recognizing our students for the hard work and effort the put into learning, being a good friend, being responsible an demonstrating agency, arriving to school on time and ready to learn each day, showing perseverance, and overall adding to the great culture of our school. As such, I have implemented monthly principal's awards this year. Awards were handed out this week and I have included a list of our September students below.
Did you know that October is National Bullying Prevention Month? When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior, they send the message that it is not acceptable. When adults talk about how to stop bullying and create a safe environment for kids, bullying can be prevented over time. Talking with your children about bullying and empowering them to speak up when they witness bullying can help break the cycle. Students can create a world without bullying through kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Let's support others who have been hurt or harmed, treat others with kindness, be more accepting of people's differences, and help include those who are left out. Let's work together to end bullying. Want to learn more? Check out the WCSD flyer below to find resources and more!
Traffic Safety Reminder: Please be mindful when driving to and from school. We have seen an increase in cars making illegal turns, speeding to get to school on time, and not paying attention to our crossing guards. Pedestrian safety starts with safe driving so please be mindful.

Please join me for Coffee with the Principal at 9am on Wednesday, October 19th. I will be sharing some of the work that our School Site Council is doing including sharing our school site goals and our CAASPP data from last spring.
Red Ribbon Week is October 24th-28th--Our 2022 Theme is "Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free." Our student leadership group is planning some fun spirt days along with teacher and PTA support.
Our Halloween Parade is Friday, October 28th at 8:30 am on the track around our school field. PTA will have coffee and donuts for parents.
If you have a TK or Kindergarten student that day their schedule will be 8:10-12:55. The whole class will be early start on that Friday, please plan ahead.
If you are already thinking about costumes here are the guidelines to follow:
Halloween Costumes
- No masks that cover one’s entire face. We must be able to identity students
- Face paint is acceptable as long is it not gory (ie no blood)
- No weapons, even fake weapons made of plastic, foam, etc.
- Inflatable costumes are okay for the parade only
- Students must be able to remove their inflatable costume for class time
- Costumes must not reference weapons, drugs, or alcohol.
For those students that chose not to celebrate Halloween for religious or personal reasons, they will have the option to participate in alternate activities in the Paw Patch or Library.
It is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Respectfully,
Angela Gramlick

We Made a BIG Impact Together
Each year WCEF releases financials for the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) to illustrate what a huge difference your gifts to WCEF make in our schools for every student. From wish trees to a record-breaking 1,938 donors, our community answered the call for our schools in 2021-22.
We want to thank our donors, volunteers, teachers, administrators, and staff for helping WCEF reach its goal of $1.3 Million. We did it together.
The Turkey Trot is back on Thanksgiving!
Home for Thanksgiving? Add Forma Gym’s 30th Annual Turkey Trot to your holiday plans. Start the morning off right – gather your friends and family for a morning run through downtown Walnut Creek! The Turkey Trot donates $10,000 to WCEF and is a big supporter of The Contra Costa Food Bank. Register here today!
Turkey Trot volunteers needed!
Man a water station, or cheer on racers, we need 280 volunteers! It seriously takes a village. Grab a friend or family member (or 10!) and sign up today here. You can also email contact@wcefk12.org for more info!
