Accelerated Reader Campus Challenge

Ms. Fredo, Mrs. Fischer and Mrs. Cano have challenged our students to earn 5000 Accelerated Reader points by 2022!

You can help your child earn Accelerated Reading points by reading with them at home or making reading time for your child at home!

Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) Accelerated Reader quizzes can also be taken for books that have been read to students in class and in the library. Accelerated Reader gives children, teachers, and librarians feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.

You can learn more about Accelerated Reader program here.

A large number of books have Accelerated Reader quizzes connected to them. If your child reads a book from home, they can bring it to school to take a quiz too.

You can ask your child's teacher for more information.

If the campus earns 5000 points collectively, Ms. Fredo, Mrs. Fischer and Mrs. Cano will dye their hair purple!

From the Specials Team: PE Update

Everyday in P.E. students practice balancing and various dynamic stretches to increase their focus, flexibility, and muscular endurance.

Students have completed a brief four square unit so they can enjoy the new four square courts painted in their recess areas. Now they are learning the correct throwing form for the underhand throw. They know if they point and step toward their target they will have more success when throwing. Have fun practicing the overhand throw with your child outside. The cues we say are, "point, step, swing my arm back, and throw!"

CLASSROOM SUPPORT

Interested in helping your child's teacher or helping out our campus? While we are not permitted to have volunteers on campus due to Covid and APH guidelines, we are still looking to partner with our parents and grandparents to work together!

If you are interested in helping our classroom teachers and campus by taking home materials to prepare for students including, cutting, stapling, creating booklets, etc., there is plenty of work to share with everyone!

You can also email our Parent Community Liaison Araceli.McBeth@dvisd.net for more information and to volunteer your time at home to help our campus!

Arrival Safety Reminders

If you are dropping your child off at school in the morning, please make sure to wait until your vehicle is at one of our numbered drop off stations before letting your child out of the car. Please do NOT drop your child off before reaching the drop off stations where adults are stationed. Dropping your child off earlier in the line is unsafe for students and creates unsafe traffic patterns in our parking lot.

It is important that students exit their vehicle quickly to keep traffic flowing. Please help us with this so that we can make sure arrival happens quickly and most importantly, safely for everyone.

Dismissal

Thank you to all our parents for adjusting to our new dismissal line up for car riders. We appreciate you lining up along Apogee Road as Finnial Road and Moonbeam Road (behind the school) remain closed.

Please make sure you have your student's car tag displayed in your dashboard at pickup. If you need an additional car tag, please visit our front office and present your ID to be issued a new one.

  • If you are going to change how your child goes home, please communicate this with the front office by 2:00PM
  • If you are going to pick your child up from school before dismissal, please pick them up no later than 2:30PM. To ensure the safety of our students and that everyone gets home, we will not pull students from classrooms after 2:30PM.
  • Parents are prohibited from pulling a student off the bus at dismissal.
  • Students will be released during the school day only to persons listed in Skyward.
