WLWV Community Update
June 4, 2018
It's Graduation Week — Congratulations Class of 2018!
Next up is West Linn High School's graduation on Tuesday, June 5, followed by Arts and Technology High School on Wednesday, and Wilsonville High School on Thursday. For more graduation information go to your school's website. Congratulations to all of our 2018 Graduates!
Volunteer vs Visitor
That being said, it's important to note the difference between a volunteer and visitor. Of course all visitors are welcome in our schools, whether you're dropping off lunch, meeting a teacher, or visiting for a school production. But, for all parents and community members who plan to volunteer in any capacity, it's a requirement that he/she sign up to do so through HelpCounter.
If you are going to be working with students you MUST register to be a volunteer. This includes working in the classroom, at field day, or chaperoning on a field trip. Volunteers are subject to background checks, and the process for approval can take up to a few days so make sure you do so well ahead of any event you volunteer. This is an important process as we continue to ensure our schools are safe and welcoming for all students.
Thank you for all that you do for our students!

Help us Re-Imagine High Scohol
Starting back in November, a group of teachers, parents and school leaders engaged in a Superintendent's High School Study with the purpose of exploring the need and range of possibilities for current and future high school program designs and learning spaces.
We have spent the year surveying current and past students, touring cutting-edge high schools throughout the Pacific Northwest, and consulting with high school program designers among other research. We also enjoyed hearing parent input at our Parent Forum on May 24, but we still want to hear any feedback the community might have.
If you have any thoughts about the current high school experience, areas where the school district can improve, or additions to the schedule or programming of our current high schools, please email Communications Director Andrew Kilstrom at 503-673-7012.
Help the Education Foundation Reach Its Goal!
The largest Education Foundation fundraiser of the year, the Count Me In Campaign aims to reach the Foundation's mission of hiring new teachers to foster excellence in the WLWV School District. Thank you for your help!
SafeOregon TipLine Provides Anonymous Reporting Resource for Students
In an effort to improve student safety across all West Linn-Wilsonville schools, the District continues its partnership with SafeOregon and the SafeOregon TipLine. Many students already report issues of safety concerns, bullying, harassment, or possible suicidal thoughts to trusted adults around them, and the District will continue to foster an environment where children feel comfortable to confide in parents, teachers, school counselors, or building administrators. But in an effort to provide even more resources for students, the State of Oregon has developed an additional channel and method for obtaining help called the SafeOregon Tip Line.
The goal of the SafeOregon tip line is to prevent threats to school safety by providing schools and communities with a relevant reporting tool. Tips can be submitted by students through email, phone, text messages, the Safe Oregon mobile app or web portal. Tips are quickly reviewed by SafeOregon technicians, and are then passed to school administrators and local law enforcement agencies. If the tip requires an urgent response, technicians from Safe Oregon will call 911 for immediate help, as well as provide information to West Linn-Wilsonville school administration or school officials.
West Linn-Wilsonville administration will respond to all tips in an appropriate and timely matter, which can include gathering more information, communicating with key stakeholders, using the District Threat Assessment System, using the District Suicide Risk Assessment process, connecting the student with additional resources, contacting law enforcement, or any other responses that are appropriate.
You can learn more about Safe Oregon at http://safeoregon.com/, or contact your child’s counselor for more information.
